block was at one time powder blue, the head looks unpainted, the valve cover is orange, and the intake manifold is orange. is this all the original stuff?

Nope. Original engine color for all '67 passenger car 225s in North America was red.

Blue didn't start til '69. Orange was never used on North American slant-6s (though the red that was used at some engine plants can fade out to an orangey color).

Turquoise was used on big V8s, but not on slants. I've seen the early blue engines ('69, '70, '71) faded to a yellowish-blue that could reasonably be called turquoise, just as some of the red engines fade out to an orangey color, but I've got '69, '70, '73 and '79 paint chip sets showing the engine paint code, and it's the same "Corporate Blue" code. Those engine paint codes aren't nearly as reliable as the body color codes, though; I've seen a lot of different "only one kind of red, with only one code" red engine paint on low-miles engines from different plants and different years. It's not as if they were going to shut down the production line 'cause the latest batch of engine paint was a little greener, a little bluer, a little more orange, etc.

hi,my 69 cuda that my dad bought new was turquoise. shows turquoise in the original engine brochure also. no blue here. ron

My Canadian 69 dart came with a turquoise 225....it was an ornery car,,,the kind that would ignore factory paint chip data.....and pretend to be a big block.

Paint is cheap and readily available, casting numbers however.......priceless. The only sure way to tell what you have.

on the head there are a bunch of little dots with arrows, and really only one set of numbers, which reads 2843169- 1 or I

My original 225 was blue, not turquoise, mine is a 69.

Different plants changed colors at different times, it is very difficult to determine what color the original engine was unless you have intimate knowledge of the factory in which the engine was built. You cannot go by exact year.

Mine was built in the Hamtranck plant.

Well, yeah, that's the other thing: It's completely realistic for a plant to run short of the designated color or anything even close to it, at the height of 3-shift demand for a particular engine. Options are paint the engine the "wrong" color or halt production until more paint can be obtained. H'mmm...

Get the casting numbers, then go to www.allpar.com engines section and there is a great article with year to year charts written by some guy named Dan Stern ..........this will give you within a year of when your engine was produced.

It's more likely that the colors on your hardware were chosen by the last owner of the vehicle than the factory.

Alrigt, my 68 Valiant has blue engine with green intake and unpainted valve cover. My enginge comes from a '74 Canadabuilt Valiant but I have "built back" to 68 specs including breaker points and other stuff.

Whats correct for '68?
