So last night I was pleasantly suprised to find the Dart has 10" drums in the front. I always thought the /6 cars had 9's all the way around. Now the question is, when I eventually convert the front to discs, can I move the larger drums to the rear. And is there even a small bolt pattern disc setup for '73 and up? Car is small bolt pattern all the way around, manual brakes.

I've seen conversions available that keep the small bolt pattern with disk breaks mounted to the drum break spindles. These are 'premium' priced aftermarket conversions. I don't know the vendors off the top of my head, but I think you'd find it in mopar collectors guide. Compared to the amount of time/money collecting parts and the work to install them, and moving to bigger bolt pattern (pretty much required for stock conversion to disk brakes) I think it is almost a wash in the end. If your front end needs rebuilt anyway, it's an even bigger wash.

If you don't mind shopping the swap meets and moving to big bolt, go stock conversion.

Otherwise, save your money and get one of those fancy aftermarket kits. Remember that you'll also need to add a proportioning valve either way you go.

Some of these guys have put together some really nice brake updates, I'm sure you will get suggestions for places to read about what really works. I know the A-body forum on Allpar.com has some detailed info about the up and down side of brake conversions. It should be easy to find since it's a sticky topic which is always on top.

They did, as standard equipment through '73. 10" drums were optional starting in mid-'64, and were often included as standard on cars that had such weight-adding equipment as air conditioning. Very few '74 A-bodies had 9" front brakes.

No, front drums cannot be made to work on the rear, regardless of size.

There is a small-bolt disc setup for '62-'72 A-bodies. You could put that on your car if you want to keep the small bolt pattern. Or you could use Chevrolet S10 brake components via the Scarebird setup. But no, disc brakes were large-bolt on the A-body beginning in '73, so if you want to use factory parts correct for your year, you'll be changing the rears to large-bolt.
