They've just come out with a chrome paint that can be applied with an ordinary spray gun or airbrush and actually, really looks like chrome, and dries instantly...and is flexible. This is way beyond just cool, this is huge. The "chrome" spray paint that's been available for years at the hardware store has its uses, but chrome it most certainly is not. It forms a diffuse reflecting surface (like the dull side of aluminum foil), not a specular reflecting surface (like a mirror or chromed metal). This new paint achieves specularity.

Here are pictures of it on a motorcycle helmet shell, on a shoe, and on ABS plastic.

And Here's a short movie of it being applied to a flexible plastic item, which is then flexed. Wow! (Ignore the yo-bling-bling-strizzeet-yo-beeyotches-yo moron at the beginning; the rest of the movie's worth it)

The product's called "MirraChrome" if you buy it packaged in bulk for body shop usage with special spray guns, or "Killer Chrome" if you buy it in aerosol spray cans.

Impressive!...but you pay for it. However, it looks like the best solution for the plastic gauge bezels I made. I'll be interested to hear the results from amateur users.

Man! that's nice! this means nice lightweigt plastic bumpers, etc etc and etc... I think I can cut off like 25% of my car's weight doing my bumpers and many other heavy chrome parts on fiberglass, and they painting them with this!!! so I can keep on eating! hehe

...I'll believe it when I see it in person - Remember, like Dan sez, there are no magic-in-a-can chemicals that are a substitute for proper maintenance, like keeping the correct original chrome on your car polished and rust-free! :P :P :P

I don't think even the manufacturer is touting this paint as a replacement for chrome on metal parts.

It's meant to put a chrome appearance on items that have traditionally been difficult or impossible to chrome.

Yes, but I think it qualifies as cheap when you look at the cost of the real suff. I don't think I'll be buying either anytime soon. Plus I don't think you can use the real stuff on shoes.

And.... EVERYBODY NEEEDS chrome shoes...

Please mommy can I buy those chrome shoes, please please....

And, Chrome won't get you home!
