Jeeze, I'm asking questions all over the place and I'm not even sure if this is the right place to be asking this one, but what the hell. So here's my latest, my speed-o-meter won't go above 43mph. Don't ask me why, that's why i'm here.

Any suggestions for diagnosing what's causing this or possible solutions?

D'oh, forgot to mention, its a '71 Valiant, 225, auto. Just in case that's important.

Thanks all, I'm sure I'll be asking all sorts of fun questions as I learn everything they never wanted to teach me in school.

Easy, easy fix: Your speedo needle is bent a little rearwards, and at 43mph there happens to be a bit of a high spot on the speedo face. The needle jams on the face and cannot go higher.

Remove the instrument cluster bezel and carefully bend the speedo needle forward a little. Manually push it all the way across the speedo dial then let go of it, to make sure it doesn't hang any more.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Good to hear that's an easy fix, i'll do that tomorrow then when I have a free hour or two, probably as I'm letting the oil drain out. Thanks again Dan.

N/P, just to clarify, when I say it's currently bent "rearward", I mean towards the speedo face. And when I say to bend it "forward", I mean away from the speedo face.
