My son's '74 Dart Sport and my '76 Duster parts car both have only one horn, mounted underneath the battery tray. Other cars I have seen or pictures posted here on the web have two horns, some mounted on the right side of the radiator.

Is this some type of two-tone (high/low) approach to being heard better than one tone? They look the same, so are the horns adjustable? In other words, can I add the Duster horn to the Dart and make an adjustment to get the two-tone effect?

Just curious,
Jerry

Yep. Well, maybe... It's the low one you need, I think. It should have "HI" or "LO" molded into the horns. The tone is not really adjustable. Go to the junkyard and rob the dual horns off a Fury or something.

Or, y'know, if you're ca-rayzee like me, send away to Germany for a pair of Bosch ultra-loud Supertone heavy-duty electric truck/bus horns.

It's been my experience that single horn mopars will have the low note horn. Adding a high note horn changes the sound - it does not necessarily make it louder. Adding a second low note horn makes it sound like a big truck.

The adjustment on the horn is to adjust the clarity - basically it's adjusting how many amps flow through the horn (the procedure is in the factory service manual). When I added a high note horn to my 76 Valiant, I had to make that adjustment to the high note horn, because while each horn would sound when connected by itself, with both connected only the high note would sound.

I believe the reason for moving the horns from the passenger side of the radiator to under the battery tray was to make room for the coolant recovery tank option.

Steve G.

...I added horns from a '75 Buick under the hood of my '88 Dodge truck (in addition to the limp-wristed stock horn). It's now loud, out of tune, curls your toenails and sounds like the Santa Fe is comin'!

For grins, I guess we could intstall the old "AAAOOOOOOOGA" horn Aaron found in his grandad's shop. I put one in a '72 Gran Torino, back when I was in high school. Talk about getting looks...

Dan, I think the reference to "Czech" ered slacks comes from the old Steve Martin and Dan Akeroyd (sp) bit on "Saturday Night Live." They were a couple of "wild and crazy guys" who wore some awfully loud checkered slacks (you remember them from the '70s).

I seem to recall the dual horns could be had under the hood of most luxo type mopars (diplomats, etc...).

I can't remember for the life of me whether the Gold Duster came factory with a set or if they just used the stock single horn, since it was the 'upscale' duster....

No! Why don't you put some wooden wheels on it while you're at it! That would scream "I'm a nerd!!!" Sorry, Jerry.
