I am about to assemble the slant/6 for my 50 model Plymouth wagon and wondered what options there are for new intake/exhaust hardware? Does anybody make a stainless set, or would stainless be a bad idea with the heat? Can I have the stock ones hi-temp coated, or powder coated? I know their main purpose is functional, but if I could get them looking nice to boot I wouldn't complain. I've got a chrome alternator, nice Clifford intake and looking for a clean aluminum valve cover so nicer hardware would be nice.

I painted my triangle washers with silver hi temp paint.
they look nice.

Oof. That stainless bolt set doesn't look like it would work well at all. The slant uses studs with specially-shaped washers for a very good reason...

The most usefull part of the kit is the Stainless Steel allen keyed studs. Be sure and re-use your original crown nuts and triangle washers where the originals went. The nuts they provide are not near as effective as the original setup. My experience is with a Offenhauser intake and CLifford headers. The Ofenhauser has a 14 mm boss and the Clifford has a 11 mm flange. So there is a 3 mm difference between the thicknesses. All the more reason to use the triangle washer setup.

I got a superior set of ALL bolts and washers for every component of my 225 rebuild for less than $125...flywheel, bellhousing, starter, valve cover, oil pump, manifold, fan, timing chain cover, and on and on and on, grade 8 where I wanted it....polished stainless steel, allen head for the manifold studs...from AlloyBoltz.com. Sounds like a great deal. Did you get new triangle washers for the manifolds, too? Those can't have been stainless...can they?

Sorry, didn't mean to imply I got new triangle stainless washers. I didn't. I have several sets accumulated and wire wheeled them and sprayed them with high temp silver/chrome paint. I actually didn't think to ask alloybolts if they have them, but because the company is so specialized for providing such hardware to engine restorers, they may well have them, and in stainless too. I hadn't even researched all the stuff they have on the various levels of the website...I just called them. Can't emphasize how friendly the folks are to deal with and how much they know about our engines.

I appreciate the info. I will do the stainless hardware, but use the original washers unless I can get stainless ones made.
