What brake pads do you recommend? I generally use bendix, but the only store in town that carries them can't get them for pin style calipers. What others brands would you suggest?

Depends on what your goals are. Low cost, long life, low noise, max friction...? A lot of the "lifetime" pads from the major makers (Raybestos, Bendix, Wagner, etc.) are so hard that they substantially increase the amount of pedal pressure you have to apply, make noise and aggressively eat rotors.

I want something that doesn't make noise, doesn't eat rotors don't really care about a hard pedal I already have that with the 9" drums. Cost isn't really a issue. I don't need a pad that will last 100,000 miles cuz I can always change them again later. So basically I want something similar to what OEM would've been. I haven't gotten a chance to see if chrysler still carries a vline pad for these calipers I think the fury used them until it became a f-body. Thanks in advance

As long as you stick with a name brand (Raybestos, Bendix, Wagner), you'll do fine. Just remember, though, that within any of these companies, they will usually show 2 or 3, maybe more listings for a given application. (cheapies, a mid grade, premium, organic, metallic, maybe even ceramic!)
What you want to avoid is the "store brand" unless they tell you who they are made by, and then only buy them if they come from aone of the well known companies above. I like Car Quest, theirs are all Raybestos products. Another thing to watch out for is counter people that right away wanna sell you the cheapest thing they got, because they assume that because you drive such an "old" car, you just wanna "get by". But shoe sole riveted to your metal backings often is better than this econo grade.
The mid grade is often compared to "OE quality".

I use pads from the dealer for street use. If I was going to run at the track I'd use something like Hawk Blue pads.

I went through the books couldn't find a part # for the pads. The computer doesn't list them either. What are the #'s of the pads you use on the street. I've already bought a set of carquest premium (only non cheapo I could find) but since the dealership parts department is only 200 feet away I wouldn't mind getting a set of legit chrylser pads.

mcnoople-
i looked at the mopar action tech archive online and dick ehrenberg lists the part number 4049700 as the factory pin-type semi-metallic pads. he claims they are no longer available and lists an aftermarket brand FMSI (federal mogul? never heard of FMSI) part number D39. i'm thinking maybe since you work at a dodge dealer they would run a parts locator search for you and you may get lucky.
just for giggles i looked at the autozone site and they list nothing, but the advance auto parts site lists two pad sets (i used a '71 b-body for the search) Bendix D39, and Raybestos PGD39R. both of these are organic and would probably work just as well as those carquest pads (probably made by bendix or raybestos anyway.)

The local advance auto is where I get most of my parts. They do have a listing for bendix pads, but there are none available in their network. They don't even have raybestos listed in their parts computers. The carquests are a raybestos pad so I don't anticipate problems I just like to be prepared for them. But definately thanks for the part #s after my lunch break I'll walk over and see if they still exist. Thanks everyone

i just remembered that the advance auto website is actually their parent company parts america. the advance system sometimes lists differently from the website since parts america is like 3 or 4 chains. you can order from the site but would have to pay shipping.

Rockauto.com shows Raybestos RRD39, PG39R, ACDelco 17D39, and Wagner MX39 in stock for $16, $20, $24, $30 respectively.

You notice how Bendix, Wagner, Raybestos all show a pad with a number 39 (never mind all the letters for a minute) What FMSI is, it is a universal "standard". The 39 refers to a certain size and shape steel backing. The PGD, B, RRD,whatever, is the company's trademark for "their" pads as compared to a competitors. I do not remember exactly what FMSI stands for, (Federal Motorvehicle Standard I?????????) but basically it puts all brake manufacturers on the same page. Some brands list 2 different series of numbers on their label, especially Wagner. The one number has a 3 letter prefix with a 4 digit number then under it is the "common" number.

The chrysler pads are ns3. 9 sets of them exist in the country the original cost was 10.00 the list was 17.00 and the price for one of the sets today is whatever the dealer that has them wants to charge.
