I have finally given up on my '74 Scamp power steering box and I plan to remove it this weekend. Is the coupling pin tappered? I tried to reove it once before and could not bugde it so I gave up. Now I'm determined. Any hints on getting it out would be appreciated.

Thanks.

After three decades in place, those pins can really be stubborn. It's not tapered; it's just a standard split roll pin that can be driven out with a properly-sized punch and a BFHammer. Applying Kroil or Coca-Cola can help.

For stuck, rusty parts, I have found PB Blaster to be best thing on the planet. Soak it in it for a while and it should make things go much smoother.

Well I got 'er done. Soaked it with WD40 overnight and she came right out. Got the whole gear reamoved and replaced in less than 3 hours. And flushed and all new fluid. Works great so far. I was having some very strange power steering problems but they seem to be gone.

Thanks all.

As far as I know, Kroil is only available direct from the manufacturer.

The Eastwood Company sells it mail order or on their website.

http://www.eastwoodco.com/

just search for Kroil - they have an aerosol and a larger size (half gallon?)

We have used Kroil and PB Blaster here at work. They are both exceptional products.
