Yesterday my choke wire shorted to ground and now I have no output from the alternator. Bad wire dressing on my part. I was looking at the schematic and noticed there is no circuit breaker to prevent this from happening. Shouldn't there be a fuse in line with the choke?

Thanks

The wire on my choke is so small its almost a fusible link of its own. No sign of a fuse.

No dedicated fuse on factory-installed electric choke heaters. As SBC says, the wire itself is pretty much the fuse. You can put a fuse in if you like. I don't think the short in the choke circuit killed your alternator, though it might've damaged the voltage regulator circuit.

Alternator checked out good at the local auto parts store. Bought a new voltage regulator. Starting the install now. What should the alternator read for voltage on the field pins once I get her hooked up?

Thanks.

With the key "on", one field terminal should get battery voltage. The other should show varying resistance to ground.
