Tom, I am the mystery "guest" writer. Not trying to hide.

It clearly looks like I am in the minority on this one. :(

I was just giving my input since it was asked for. I'm not for a strict factory setup. It seems I didn't get my point across all that well.
Quote:
Guest" - Since this is a bracket race and not a heads up race then why worry about how fast some else is or what is on their car? It all about consistency and predictability not who runs the fastest.
Then what is the point of a street class? DOT tires and mufflers slow down times.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, apparently I just am not getting it. :(

Most of the guys that are going to come out and race with us are going to have upgraded and modified their cars for the most part. If someone wants to race a "Pure Stock" Slant 6 car, that's great. Be proud of your accomplishments with what you can do with what the factory gave you.
I agree wholeheartedly with this statement.

I am not against power enhancers, I'm all for intake and exhaust header modifications. As well as head porting and internal modifications.

I do not want to see purpose-built drag cars put on grooved slicks and 4" flow through mufflers and have a buddy at an inspection/dmv place give him a registration so he can race in a street class. I've seen it, I'm sure some of you have seen it. My suggestions were trying to reflect that. If popular opinion wants nitrous, turbos, blowers, and fuel injection; I can live with it.

Again, I was just expressing my opinion. :)

bmimken We are going to try to have fun with this street championship this year and have a street national champion.
I doint want to get caught up in a lot of rules, all of our slant people are honest. I could put up 100 rules what is a street car but doint want to go there. I think it is going to come down to who goes to the most races and does good. I could be wrong but i doint think so
There is not going to be enuff money to some one to build a car and call it a street car.
It is about being the Slant Six Racing News National Street Champion.
I am going to at least six events and i can decide what is street and what is not. I am not the only judge on this but i feel like i will go to more events than most. Dennis and Tom are also promoting this event so lets get it going and have fun.
Thanks Ron Parker

Ron, I respect your judgement on this or any issue. If its okay by you, its okay by me.

I hope I didn't offend anyone, I'm not trying to imply slant racers are dishonest.

I'll bow out of the discussion on this topic, good luck to all the racers and look forward to seeing the SSRN street champ.

bmimken,
Don't bow out! Your input and others like it is exaclty what we are all looking for! That is what makes this group and series what it is.
I agree with your statement about "borderline streetcars" wholeheartedly! That whole Orlando World Street Finals race for instance sure doesn't seem like street cars to me! But man, is it fun to watch.

I really appreciate Ron Parker's and others efforts in supporting this and trying to get more "casual racers" out to the events.

Do you have a vehicle you're thinking about bringing out to race? We'd all love to hear about it! What events do you think you might be able to make it to? Seymour loves to see new faces at events. He made me feel like a celebrity at Bristol 2003 when I showed up with our beat up, barely running "GodsRods Duster".

Please keep the ideas and opinions coming! They're all welcome and appreciated.

Rob

Brain,
No need to bow out and I just wanted to know who you were because it seemed like you were interested and I WANT TO ENCOURAGE THAT.

Ron P came up with this idea to give racers such as yourself something to shoot for...and not be in competition with racers like Dale Rose, Ron Hamby, Mike J....etc. This purse and prizes can only be won by a true street car. Tag, Title,insurance...etc. That basically rules out a purpose built race car and puts the spotlight light on you, Nick, Nathan, Lou, Seymour and anyone else that brings their driver out and races with us. He really is trying to encourage you guys off the internet to come out and join and I for one hope it works.

Brian - hope to see you out at Farmington, Bristol and North Wilkesboro this year. If you attend those three races you would stand a good chance at the Street Car championship.

Stick around it is going to get good.

Whew! Thought for a minute that I pissed some people off.

I made it out to Farmington last year with Lou and met those of you that attended.

I'd like to make it to more races this year, but I started a new job last year and am last to pick vacation based on seniority. Looks like I'll probably only be able to make it to Farmington again this year. :(

I probably have the slowest car among the guys that race. But that doesn't bother me. I just like admiring what you guys have done to your slants and participating with you guys.

Thanks for the kind words.

Brian,
Keep an eye on the shcedule for North Wilkesboro. It will be a Saturday only race and youi might be able to make it pretty easily.(unless you have to work on Sat.) If you can make it to Farmington on Friday night they have a test n tune session for 3-4 hrs and you could make run after run. A couple of us will be there and could help you out with any questions you might have.

Tom

Tom, thanks for the generous offer!

Unfortunately, it looks like I will be in MA for a family reunion that weekend of North Wilkesboro.

I will have to see if I can make it Friday night at Farmington. In the meantime, I plan to practice making runs at the nearest track to me (Dunn-Benson dragstrip) on their test-n-tune nights.

At this point, I am trying to work on consistency and not speed.
