Aw shucks 'Zilla quit worrying. I always use this board to come away a little smarter each time, thanks to the good folks on it. The confusion is what happens when, after promising my wife "one or two cars honey.." I'm up to twelve and they've all sorta blurred together. RICK :D

I am curious, has anyone on this site ever gone with a full fiberglass set up for a duster? wonder what the true weight savings was, and if it balanced out the cost for them.

I am going to use glass hood, bumpers, and deck lid on mine. The fenders don't really weigh enough to warrant glass ones. Neither do the doors if you gut them well enough.

how much do you think gets saved by just doing the bumpers (going fiberglass)?

since I am probably going to de-chrome the car, I might as well go fiberglass bumpers.

Rick,

Here is a picture of that 170 (177) Slant at the Houston Show. I couldn't help finding it in the pits and taking some pictures / seeing what he had under the hood.

Did you say you were at the Show?

On mine the biggest savings is getting rid of the crash bumper shock absorbers. IIRC, them and the steel bumpers add over 75# per end on the car.

The savings will not be anywhere near as good on a car w/o the crash bumpers. :D

:D Yes sir BW I was racing at Houston that weekend, and just couldn't resist checking out the same Slanter. The fellow who owned it was a hoot to talk with , he's been racing that car over two decades. The dang thing was fifteen seconds deadly too! Us Lone Star Slanters need to get organized......RICK

I am inSC.. and have a 71 twister as well as a handfull of cars junked...There are a few close yards with A bodies in them ..whatever you might need I should be able to help as long as you do not ask for 8 and 3/4 posi units or 340 engines...For that stuff you have to go to my shed! :P

so zilla, are you thinking of fabbing up a piece that is similar to the "Y" shaped mounts, or are you looking at something different?

I work in a plastics fab shop and do custom work all the time. I was thinking of making a bracket along those lines.

I found a 1972 Duster with a non-running Slant Six, Automatic, body looks OK from the outside. I think the interior is trashed. Don't know about the floor pans, trunk or frame rails. At this point what would be a deal breaker when I look at it. It is not a lot of money <$1000.

8) BW if that Duster is located in our neck of the woods, me and the other A-body nuts in our little group would be glad to give it the evil eye. RICK
