Do the A body 2-door post cars share the same pillar angles with the A body 4-door cars? Just wondering because I have yet to find a 2-door post car in the JY and was courious to know if they came with the plastic A pillar covers and if they share front/rear glass along with possibly the rear seats. They look simular to me. Forgot to mention that the car in question is a 68 Dart 2-door sedan. Also, are 4-door cars concidered sedans?

Thanks-Dart68

For A body models : 1960-62 / 1964-66 / 1967-76 - Note that nothing interchanges between the three body series, although pasrt intechanges within each body series.

The A pillar is the same for all A body sedans and wagons. The vent on the front doors is also the same for all a body sedans and wagons while the wagons use the 4-door sedan front doors.

Thus the plastic A pillar covers from any sedan or wagon will interchange. Also, the lowest priced series (L) in most years did not have a moulding for the A-pillar.

All windshields are the same on sedans and wagons while the 1961-62 hardtops share the same units as the sedans as do the 1963-66 hardtops and convertibles. 1967-76 sedan windshields are not the same as 1967-76 hardtops, 1967-69 convertibles nor 1970-76 coupes.

The rear window is the same for all 1960-62 models, 1963-65 106" wb Valiants are the same, 1964-66 Darts & 111" wb Valiants are the same, 1967-76 Dart sedans & 1974-76 111" wb Valiant sedans are the same, and 1967-73 Valiant sedans share the same rear window.

The 1963 Dart and 1966 Valiant rear windows were one year only units.

As for rear seats. the only differences between the 2-door and 4-door rear seats were the outside corners - they were more rounded on the 4-door to permit easier egress (ie, get your feet and legs around the seat and door post).

The 106"/108" wb Valiant rear seats differed from the 111" wb A body rear seats in that they had a slight rise out on either side to get around the rear wheel wells. As well, the rear seat cushion on the shorter wheelbase models had a small intentation on the back corners. That was not needed on the longer wheelbase models as the rear wheel wells were further back. But the 106"/108" seats will fit the 111" wb models (although not tight) while the reverse will not hold true.

Thanks for the info Chrycoman. So its safe to say that any 67-76 Dart 2-door sedan or 4-door will be able to provide me will said items. This is good to know since the only sedans I find are 4-doors.

Thanks-Dart68

Correct, plus '67-'76 Valiants for the A-pillar stuff and windshield, and '74-'76 Valiant 4-doors for the backlight (back glass). There were no Dart or Valiant 2-door sedans after '69, only 4-door sedans and 2-door hardtops (and of course 2-door fastbacks if we count the Duster/Demon/Dart Sport—but none of the fastback stuff fits your car).

If you want something really flash and you live someplace cold, use www.car-part.com to search 1976 Dodge Dart, back glass. On the next screen, choose "heated". It'll swap into your '68, and you can have a factory backlight defogger grid with the addition of some wires, a relay and a dash switch.

Dan, you are the man! I never new that the heated rear glass was an option on the Dart. I've seen them on Dusters and maybe a Dart Sport. I have implanted a rear defogger from a 74 model but it takes a while to do its thing. I sure am glad I stopped procrastinating with this question.

Exactly. Believe it or not I headed out to work one mournning and had frost on the windshields. But the glass fogs up pretty good around here.

Did I miss something? The C pillars (rear sail panel) are different on 67-76 2dr hdtp vs. 4dr or 2dr sedan (post) Darts as far as I know! Back glass is different too, I believe.

You're right, but the OP is working with a 2-door sedan, which means 4-door sedan backglass will fit.

Hardtops don't enter into it this time.

It does in Phoenix too... sometimes more than others... depending on what you're doing...

A-body parts interchangeability can lead to all kinds of mixing and matching.

Any body ever see the Valiant ('64 IIRC) that was a two door sedan on one side and a four door sedan on the other? The owner had a side swiped two-door post car and a four door parts car and since the roof stampings are the same...

Got a rusty '67-69 A-body two door post? you could use it to turn a '70-76 Dart 4-door sedan into a two door post car that never existed. That would have 'em scratching their heads at the Mopar shows!

I love stuff like that. I'd like to do a '67 or '68 Scamp... Same year Valiant front clip, dash, trim, emblems, wheelcovers, etc on a Dart hardtop body.

True!

Well...from the front, anyway! The back end would give the game away unless you did some very fancy cut 'n' paste work which might not work) at the trailing end of the trunk lid/quarter panels.

Could also import a VE-VF-VG ('67-'70) Valiant Safari station wagon from Australia and make it into a Dart wagon with minor work. Or, given the taillamps used on the VE model, a '67-'69 Barracuda station wagon would really have them going "Huh?":

Image

Moving back to reality (where we don't blow four figures to bring a station wagon halfway round the world) I've always thought it would be fun to have a 4-door Barracuda. Or maybe go the other way and put a '70 Dart front clip on a Barracuda body!
