I just bought a 70 dart swinger slant6 auto. I have always loved this body style and seen alot of them at various carshows and so on but never owned one till today. After getting a really good look up into the rear wheel well i am curious as to how much tire you can fit in there with out having to cut it up. before i started cutting i just wanted to to know what was availabe and see some pics of different peoples cars. you can post them here or email them to me either way is fine

Thank you to all those who reply

turbodak@earthlink.net is my email.

Well...what are you trying to achieve? "Biggest possible wheel/tire" is kind of a vague question. What kind of driving do you intend doing with this car? What's the goal?

And to add to Dan's questions what dimensions are you primarily concerned with overall height or width or both. There is a decent article on selecting the right wheel/tire size in the latest Mopar Action. What axle do you have, is it the stock original 7 1/4, 8 1/4, 8 3/4, or is it out of a different body style so the width is different? Are you gonna look into bigger breaks if you go to bigger wheels? You got air shocks so you can get that early 80's body slant?

Or do none of these questions matter and you just want the biggest wheel and tire combo possible for your car?

Brian

wanted to get something alot wider in there with out cutting up a rust free trunk pan. My dart has a 7.25 axle right now and yes it has brand new airshocks..

purpose of post was to get some pics of various cars with known tire sizes with out body modifications.

any clearer? not meant to sound like im smarting off either becasue im not seriously. dont be offended please.

man even after the apology that sounds crappy to me so sorry again its not meant to be that way

i am not too fond of the raked look. I am partial to the tires bieng tucked up inside the wheel wells like a drag car as well. so i guess i want it lowered and widest available without modification of body

Well, here again, what does "a lot wider" mean to you? What are you going to do with this car? Drive it on public roads, go drag racing, something else?

205/70R14s work great on 14" x 5-1/2" wheels, and are a lot wider than the skinny tires that came on '70 Darts...

205 70 14 cool.

DO you have a pic of a set of those on a factory dart? My primary use will be street driven / cruise to carshows and drag race once in a while.

I have a set of 255 60 15 on my turbocharged dakota project. they have a really good look to them obviously not factory but not so wide it looks prostreet. but i had to narrow my axle 5 inches to accomadate an 8 in rim with 4 in backspacing on that toy.

No pic of those tires on a '70 Dart, but here they are on 14" x 6" Cragar S/S wheels on my '62 Lancer.

here is what my dakota looks like. I have enough room left over to go 275 60 15 on the same rims. I was wanting to fit something similar to that in my dart.

but after talking to you i see there is no way to avoid cutting the pan and redoing the rear suspension. ill pick up a set of 205 70 14 and throw them on there to see how it looks until i am ready to take the dart apart and start my restoration.

Here is what my dart looks like with the Goodrich 205 /70 14's
on the factory rally wheels

No rubbing of any kind, or mods done to the suspension.

Although it needs front shocks, one of my winter todo's
while it is in the garage over the winter.

Matt

i have run 235/60-14s on lbp factory rallye wheels on my '70 swinger with no issues, as well as 245/60-15s on cop wheels with good results. right now the car has 235/45-17s on mustang wheels with 1" spacers and there is a little more room to go 245 or possibly 255/45-17s. you can find some pics here: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/vbg ... garage=350
