my slant six stubles a little when its idleing. the whole engine shakes slightly because of this. it has a new fuel pump and the timing is set right. the only thing i could think of is that i dont have the carb tuned right(its been rebuilt) or that my plug wires are bad. the wires i am using are of a 318 that i derbied. the wires got pretty hot during the derby but do not show any signs of melting. any ideas?

Many possibilities, but I would first check for vaccumn leaks around carb and intake (and associated vac lines).

I second Mac on this one. I had the same problems, noticed a leak, replaced the intake gasket, and all the associated problems disappeared.

After vacuum leaks, check the valve adjustment.

Next time you pull the spark plugs, look to see if one is more crud covered than the rest. If you find a really off looking plug, the wire is likely to be bad.
