Hello all. I joined a while ago, and I don't quite know why I waited so long to post on this site. But here I am now.

You can see what I have in my name. I want to keep the 170 - I kind of want to be different with my car, why not go all the way and go with the smallest engine? I just want to give my car a little more performance, a bit more sound, and I don't want to spend that much money. How does this sound?:

Either a 2-bbl or 2 1-bbls: which do you recommend? I'm thinking that 2 1-bbls might get to be a pain to syncronize, and the 2-bbl might be cheaper. But 2 factory air cleaners might look cool 8) And if I go with the 2-bbl, would I be better off going with the Super Six, or can the stock manifold be modified easily enough?

I also want to open the exhaust up. I'm thinking 2 1/4" to a Flowmaster 40 series muffler.

I'm going to have the motor out to replace the main seals, so I would like to put a cam from a '71-'77 slant six, I read they open the valves .001 more and have a bit more duration.

How much would new split exhaust manifold help out with the above (like the Dutra duals or headers or custom made)?

Thanks in advance for answering any of my questions! I guess I get pretty wordy because I don't know too many people that I see every day that want to talk about cars. . .

I guess any of the intakes would do, but the 2bbl intake would be simpler,
but 2x1bbl is much cooler
Later cam is ok, but I doubt you will notice much difference.
Exhaust sounds good.
I wouldn´t go for a flowmaster, but that is just me.

i agree with rust collector 2 1bbl carbs do look very cool 8) :lol:

for exhaust, the split exhaust manifold has been know to work good with a almost stock engine plus you will have the choke pocked(if you use a 2bbl).

I don't know if I'd want to pour any water on it now - I think it's about 0 degrees now! Water would probably feel good on it!

1966 Dart Wagon - are you talking about putting the Dutra manifold on the front three and modifying the stock manifold for the back three cylinders, thus keeping the choke pocket? or is there another split manifold I'm not aware of? And about putting the Dutra manifold on the front three cylinders and keeping the stock manifold on the back three, it seems to me that the front three would flow better than the back three. Is that true? Or is there an easy way to modify my stock piece to split it?

Hey Rust Collector - why not a Flowmaster? I read that a lot of guys run them on their cars. What would you run?

Regarding the carbs - which would better? I have a Holley on mine now. I read that the 1-bbl for the 225 is a bit bigger than the one for the 170, so maybe running two of the 225 carbs would be cool.

Only the Holley carb on the standard shift 170 engines was smaller. The 170 automatics, and 225 standards and auto, had the larger carb.

My opinion is from the turbo guys, which say the flowmasters don´t really flow very good...

As I said, just my opinion, as i don´t have much proof :wink:

What other kinds of mufflers would be a good bet? I just read how they make Edelbrock mufflers, are these any good?

And for what kind of carb - I think I read that the Carter carbs flow a bit more air. Would I be better off going with a (or 2, depending upon which direction I go) Carter to replace my Holley, or are they really about the same?

Mufflers :? :roll: :twisted:

I use cheap things I can see thru, with no obstructions inside.

Like a 2.5" muffler, that is just 2" inside :roll:

I don´t like mufflers... guess someone else will give better advice on them.

Could be flowmaster makes some that really flow, for all I know :?
