Could I possibly call upon your infinite wisdom to decipher a casting # on a set of heads I have at the shop? The problem is I need to find a set of valves to fit in them (the intakes are close to a 2.25"!) They are small block Mopar heads, dated 1-5-78, no smog ports, have the letters D and a NH close to the casting # which is 3870810. Direct Connection was clueless when we called them, go figure. They are obviously not J, l, or X heads. Did they make a D head? Any help finding the valve sizes for these things would be a great help. Ya'll will probably disown me for this, but hey, it is my job! While on the topic of head, I hope to have a ported, larger valve version on the motor for the Bristol race. It is looking like stainless sbc valves and retainers will be the way to go. (Most cost effective, ya cant beat $5-$6 a valve for stainless swirl polished pieces!) I gotta do something to beat that hit man dude! Thanks, Chad

Not too much seeing hows I work in a machine shop now. All I gotta pay for is parts. I might have $100 in parts in the head when all is said and done. (There are plenty of sbc retainers and keepers laying around, the 340 springs I have look like they will work. If not I am sure the old man has a good set of double or triple springs I can use. Seats and guides are cheap....)

How much money you gonna spend trying to catch a beat up old 3500 lb 4 door 4 bbl Aspen? You do have an advantage with the sure grip, oh hael, this otta be fun! Now, if I was to put a sure grip with 3.91s, bigger cam, slicks, new springs and drag shocks, install my Clifford intake, loose about 1,000 lbs, etc..... I might be able to catch Charlie’s 2 bbl 170 Cuda off the bottle.

I don't really know what my goal is with the 4 door boat??? The fastest street legal slant powered, drive every day 4 door over 3500 lbs? If I can get consistent low 16s out of it I would be happy, then build a little old light A body. Does any of this get my mystery head question answered? Hope none of this made any sense!!! Chad :)
