Has anyone tried running an a-body in V/Stock Automatic in NHRA/IHRA competition? I am looking at running a 70-74 a-body with a 198 or a 225 and due to the constraints of the factory intake and carburetor I have some concerns that I could have a car about 2900-3000lbs run the index 15.80 or quicker. I a met a gentleman that was running (unsuccessfully) a 1980 Diplomat with a 2bbl carb on a 225 in U/Stock Automatic. If anybody has run a /6 combination in stock I would love to know about it.

Thank you

There is a guy running a Duster NHRA car up in Washington state with some success. He has posted about it on www.slantsix.com a few times. He posts under the name of pmaravitz (or something close to that).

There was also a guy in Florida who was trying to run a Super Six Mirada. I used to get pictures from him once in a while, but I haven't heard from him in a couple years. From the pictures he sent me it was gonna be a very good looking car.

The Diplomat was for sale on racingjunk.com. Nice looking car, but I wonder if it runs the number.

At that price I bet it didn't run index. However, that is a steal. Parts alone gotta be worth more than $4500.
