My block in is the machine shop now getting an .040 overbore with the crank being done at .010 - .010. I will be installing a new Melling oil pump, stock specs. My question is should I replace the oil pickup screen or attempt to clean it? If I need to replace it, where do I get one. The engine is a '62 model, 225 cid, out of a Lancer.

Soak it in a good carb cleaner ( I prefer napa brand Mac's carb cleaner, can be bought by the gallon or 5 gallon bockets, $100 for the bucket last I checked) and it'll come out new.

$100.00 for a 5 gal bucket? Proud of the stuff aren't they? LOL. Thanks.

I guess my biggest concern is that I don't want any scale to be left behind to flake off and gum up the oil pump. I saw that happen on a 65 Mercury once, it twisted the oil pump drive shft off. When we disassembled the pump there was a tiny flake of carbon scale lodged in the gears.
