I,m rebuilding 2 bbs carbs for my offy 2 x 1. The cores are in good shape. The first one I took apart had 2 balls (4198s tag). The second one only had one ( No tag). When I got my kit the directions showed one of the balls in a different place than my 2 ball carb. I know one goes under the acc. pump where does the other go? Did some have only one? Thanks for any help or rebuild tips...........

All Carter BBS carbs have two check balls. One goes at the bottom of the accelerator pump well. The other one goes in the round passage just outboard of the rectangular passage at the driver's side of the body casting. The rectangular passage contains the accelerator pump shooter jet.

Thanks...Thats how the rebuild sheet shows it. But the carb that did have 2 balls had one in the acc. well and one in the passage just below the fuel inlet valve. While searching earlier posts one recommended soaking the gaskets in oil to swell them. I've never done this before. Is this worthwhile? Thanks again as this is my first bbs rebuild.

The sheet showing a check ball below the fuel fitting is in (serious) error.

I've brushed light oil on new carb gaskets before to soften and swell them; it seems to help them seal and also helps them not stick when it's time to remove them. The accelerator pump's leather cup must be oiled and flared before installation.

Thanks again for the response. How do you flare the leather cup?
