Sweet, Doug. I'm going to miss you guys at Vegas this year. I will be home just after the races. BUT - next year for sure!!! And Mr. Duster will be ready - and better than last time.

Way to go - you keep me inspired on this stuff.

Yes, things are looking good for this ride.
I took it around the block and it burns posi and pulls hard with a mash of the throttle.... traction will be an issue.

The car shakes like crazy over 60 mph, tracked it down a bent axle (replaced) and have the driveshaft in for a balance check, I hope that fixes it.

The next few weeks are going to be a "push" to get this car sorted-out.

I just took my V out for a ride around the neighborhood after we put the Webers on. About 60 seconds after a big burnout and heading back to my house, we come head to head with a cop. He turned around and followed me to my driveway. Got lucky and he let me off. No more test drives around here....

Yep, I know that feeling... :twisted:
I am pushing my luck with my test rides, first one was with uncapped exhaust, even now with a small muff. on it, the car is still real loud. :roll:

Most likely there is one more "around town" test drive to see if the vibration is fixed and then it is off to the racetrack to do some serious "shake-out" testing and tuning.

Thats the main reason I made my Cuda "street legal" :lol: , so I can "road test" it. Driving to a cruise, one evening, I looked to my left and had a sheriff in the lane next to me. Headers, dual glass packs, 4,000 rpm with the outlets both pointing right at him. I thought I was had. He stayed next to me for about 2 blocks, gave me a thumbs up, and drove away.

Took the Lancer in for a front end alignment today, that was fun! :roll:
Funny how these shops have the latest-greatest equipment but have some young gun "tech" to operate the machine.

Things don't get off to a good start, the alignment rack's computer does not know what a 62 Lancer is so I tell the guy to try a 66 Dart and it found those specs. (it groups all 64-76 A-bodies together)

The "kid tech" (KT for short) needs to drive the car onto the rack. (Insurance rules) He was trying hard to not look worried as he sat down in the single race seat, gutted interior, all custom gaged dash, oil accumulator, NOS bottle appointed interior.
He winced when the car fired-up. (way loud, choppy idle)
I hav to say, he did good getting it onto the rack, spun the tires just a little on the slick metal ramps.

OK, KT does the rack's set-up procedure and gets the readings on the computer screen, everything in the fancy computer suspension cartoon comes-up red, nothing is in spec.
KT goes into "vapor lock" and stairs at all the red results for 5 minutes, then starts punching keys, flipping from computer screen to screen for another 5 minutes.

I break insurance rules and walk into the service bay and ask "how's it look?" He says: "It's way out, the suspension is shot".
I tell him that I checked it over myself and everything is fine, it just needs alignment. KT flips the screen to a cartoon of the upper A-frame cams and asks in a smart tone, "then tell me, how do you adjust these?"
Glad you asked... :twisted: :roll:

Luckily the shop is dead, no other customers in the place so I roll up my sleeves and tell KT to use the rack's built-in jack to lift the car's body so we can get to the upper A-frame and cam bolts. KT does this and sees that yes, these bolts look like the cartoon on the computer screen.

Meanwhile, I had already grabbed a can of WD-40 sitting near the rack and was spraying down the cam adjuster lock nuts and told KD to find a 3/4 socket and box wrench. At this point KD figured-out that I knew something about cars and showed me some of the other computer read-out screens.

The alignment equipment's computer was pretty easy to follow, it shows you a cartoon of the adjustment and has a display that shows if you are getting closer or further away from spec. as you turn the adjustment bolts, the display goes from red to green as you come into spec.
Sad to say that the machine does not tell you which direction to turn the adjuster , I thought that was lame. The laser beams are also easy to block with your body as you reach in to do adjustments, the screen goes blank right when you need it the most.

I spent about an hour with KT getting the caster / camber where I wanted it. We argued a little when I insisted that +1.7 degrees caster was OK, even if the computer display showed red. (0 to 1 degree was green)
Once we got to setting the toe-in, KT was back in his "comfort zone" and dial-in zero toe in a jiffy. Luck was with us because that was the point when "boss man" came to check on us, he reminded me that I needed to wait "outside the work area".

OK KT, finish up and drive the car off the rack while I go pay boss man. Boss man thanks me for "helping" and starts telling me about his "hopped-up" 65 Mustwang... we joke around a bit, he a cool guy after all.

I get back to KT and he has managed to get the Lancer off the rack, it loads-up and stalls just outside the service bay door. (cold Hyper-Pak)
KT gets out and tells me to go give the car a test drive, "it's your car, you know how it should feel"...
I hop in the Lancer, look around, all is clear.... lots of open parking lot.
Fire it up, clear it out,... Veroomm Verroomm...all vital signs are good.
Backed the car up a little more, just to get it straighten-out, do the old "stick it is first gear while still rolling backwards" trick and hammer down, it's posi burn-out time! :twisted: :shock:

Pop the shifter into second gear about the time the car starts moving forward and burn it hard across all four service bay doors and by the front office, a solid 100 feet of posi scratch. :shock: :lol:

The car slid a little to the right but well in control, I had to let off before the tires caught, because I ran out of parking lot. Through the rear view mirror I could see KT standing in the cloud of smoke, back in "vapor lock" mode and boss man coming out of the office door.

Onto the street I go and buzzed it up again, ahhaaa,... nothing like the sound of a high revving slant six and a car filled with tire smoke!
The car steers straight, good work guys, see you next time!
