I just got a 1970 duster with a slant six and a holley 1brl. The engine starts up and runs fine and you can drive a couple of miles until the engine warms up then it shuts off when you come to a stop it will start right up but as soon as you put it in gear again it shuts off. I have gas in the fuel filter and the carb has been rebuilt. It runs so well when you first start it and then it turns to crap. if anyone knows anything that can help me please post it thanks Steve

Possible causes

1. Vacuum Leak (This is really really common) Carb mounting gasket or intake manifold gasket are good places to check. Don't overtighten the intake manifold or it can crack.

2. Re-Adjust the idle mixture after the engine is warm and the choke is wide open, not while when the engine is cold and first started.

3. Check valve adjustment, some of those exhaust valve might be getting too tight.

There are lots more reasons, but cant think of them right now

that's a pretty good place to start. my 70 valiant did the same thing, adjusted the valves, and now it runs really smooth.

My 66 Valiant was doing the same thing after I rebuilt the carb and began driving her again. I found that it was occurring when the engine heated up enough to switch to the fast idle screw setting on the carb. A little adjustment of the screw...and no stalling since.

Clarification: When the engine is cold, the fast-idle screw sets the engine speed. When the engine is warm, the slow (curb) idle screw sets the engine speed.
