I just got the April issue of Hemmings classic Car,there's an article on the aluminum /6. It says Doug has the prototype head #100 and is using it for a pattern for new castings. What's the story Doug ?

I saw that article—it's a good one—and wondered your same question ("What's the deal, Doug?"). But, by the time I finished the article, I had a more pressing question: Who's got that late-'70s prototype fast-burn aluminum head, and how do we copy that???!!!

Guess somebody will have to CNC a head from scratch using a combustion chamber design similar to those used on the later 318s (high swirl castings).

FWIW, Jim Cox has been in deliberations recently with a head casting company about making an alum Slant head. Not sure where it's at, but if you're interested you should call him.

The factory alm. SL6 prototype heads are way outdated. Today's CAD systems allow for much better port flow along with head strength and durability.

Someday...if I ever have extra time, money and need a "labor of love" project I would take one of my "on paper" Slant head designs and make some new castings. I would set-out to do the casting equipment so I could start with making some aluminum heads and then adjust to do some high strength cast iron units, nodualar iron heads that could handle tons of cylinder pressure.

I would like to see a siamezed slant six block with a nominal
bore size of 2.65", with room for more. Jaguar used a 2.66
bore years ago on a 4" bore spacing, with not the best
casting technology even for the 1950s.

There are some big inch small blocks, Indy may release
an AMC V8 block that can be bored to 4.50". Mopar will release
a 440 inch small block this summer. A 285 inch stroker slant
six is possible.

Don't you mean 3.65-inch bore?
