I am most likely going to buy a 1973 Dart Swinger project car. It is in decent shape, a couple of dents, ratty vinyl top, good interior, a broken post that holds the door closed (don't know the official name, a real A-body thing I guess) and a blown 225 (big hole in the side of the block). The guy wants a couple of hundred bucks for it. One thing that is weird, the car sits like it has no engine, low in the back and high in the front. I'm no suspension expert (although I plan on rebuilding the front suspension) What would be the cause of this? I asked the owner, and he said all it would need is new rear shocks, but I thought I would ask y'all what you think.

BTW, I am buying this car as a project for my son and I (he is 15 and a half). This project will teach him a lot about cars and it is simple enough to do everything ourselves (even paint). The plusses of the 73 are the disk brakes, electronic ignition, three point seat belt, good american steel, no smog checks, and it's mopar. Any suggestions or advice you have are welcome. You will probably hear more from us as the project progresses.

Lessee...

Torsion bars cranked up in the front
Rear leaf springs sunk
Broken rear suspension mounts
Dead body in the trunk
Spare slant six laying in the trunk (did that once before with a windowed block and a Volare)

Good luck on the purchase, it'll make a good learner car.

what DI didn't mention is that the tortion bars can easily be "uncranked" to lower the front end. that is how my Valiant sat when I first got it. when I had it in for inspection the mechanic lowered the front end because he thought it looked stupid like that and because he knew it could cause premature failure of the bars. rear springs are very easy to replace as well. good luck with your project. I hope to do projects with my sons(all 3 of them) hen they are teens.
