I have located a set of 198 rods and am getting with the owner soon for pricing. What Id like to know is what pistons are you using-kind,size and
overbore and the approx. compression ratio you are pushing with
your combo. Im looking pretty hard at a set of KB silvolite pistons which are #KB239. Anyone have a pretty close guess at what the compression
ratio would be with an unshaved head???

Also- what rings are everyone using?? Also what is the best way to
buy a set? Does this mean I'll have to buy 2 sets of rings to have enough
to cover 6 pistons?? Since the pistons come in sets of four...???

I think an unshaved head gets anywhere upwards of 10.1-10.8:1 depending on deck height and other factors...

I did a 'rough out' on the long rod block I got a while back, and I'm having my pistons dished per Doc's sketch...the calipers told me the pistons might pop out of the hole +.06 (the previous owner decked the block I think).

The setup came with Hastings rings (yep, 8 sets).

are there 2 sizes of the 198 rod?
One for the older wide throw forged crank and one for the last /6's, narrow throw cast cranks?
Is Doc's sketch of the piston Mod's handy for me too?

No, only one type of 198 rod. There were no cast-crank 198s.

Too many people who were born on third base actually believe they've hit a triple.

On a stock deck block with the 2.2 KB turbo pistons deck height will be -.020"/-.030". Mine came out to -.028" on 2 different blocks.

Make sure you check your deck height on all cylinders too. I have heard of blocks that had different heights from front to back.

You can also order race rings for the 2.2 pistons and only get 6 sets, but it costs just as much as buying 2 stock 4 piston sets, and you don't have 2 ring sets for spares.

Another Question also : What oversize on the 2.2 pistons and how much did you have the engines bored??

I don't remember the number, but mine are .5mm oversize. It requires a +.065" overbore.

I have used the 2.2 Std., .5, .75 and 1mm O/S pistons over the years. (3.445, 3.465, 3.475, 3.485)
It boils down to that old "thicker cylinder wall vs more displacement" debate , you have to decide which will give you more power,... your choice.

I always buy 2 sets of 4 ring packs, costs the same as getting 6 and I will only have to buy on set of 4 later, when I go to "freashen-up" the motor.

Since my Silvolite 1291's are t the machinists in line to be dished I can't comment on the KB series of pistons for you.

My block is 3.445 for std size 2.2L. This motor will be going into the FDX project.

the la series small blocks 273-360???same thing???

Use the ARP con rod bolts listed for the SL6, there are 2 types available.
