Last fall I pulled the 225 on this neat old Cuda and built it with cam, pistons, shaved heads, valves an Offy manifold and Clifford Headers. Looks great. Yesterday I put the motor back in the old girl and found that the headers land on top of the power steering box. Question is - do I go to a manual steering box and what problems and difficulties will I run into. I know that the column is too short and Mopar Performance makes a converter. What about the pittman arm? Or is there any way to make the p/s box work. HELP!! Thanks

What headers did you use? do you have the Clifford number? Are they long tube or short tube? Are you sure you used a 225 motor, and not a 170?

I've got a 225 not a 170. I ordered headers form Clifford. P/N 55-0010 when I received them I had them ceramic coated so probably can't send them back. It's the long set in front that hits the p/s box. If I were to grind off the adj. screw +/-1/2 inch they might fit but worried about heat on the p/s box.
Thanks
Tom

I have a new set of those, also. Have not tried installing them, yet, but with a mockup on the engine stand, it looks like I am going to have some problems, also. Is there any chance you could shim the driver side motor mount, a small amount, to raise the header pipe up off the steering box.
Not trying to be a "smart a$$" , but headers very seldom fit just right. This is why they sould always be installed for a trial fit , before special finishes are put on them.

Great thought about the shim - didn't think of that. I only need as little bit of room. Will let you know how it works.
thanks
Tom

Charrlie,
Thanks a bunch this pm I placed a 1/4 inch shim under port side motor mount and with the moment it raised the header about 3/8 inch. I still had to grind off the adjusting stud from the p/s gear. Appreciate your input.
I'll send you pics when she's done.
Tom
