well, I can't tell what is exactly the diffrence... but I can tell you guys this: I had a 1977 dodge polara RT wich had the stock manifold on it. OEM carburetion for this car was a large 2 barrels holley 2300, wich was blueprinted from one made by penin and then mass produced by argelite s.a. (argeninian license holder for many carbs factory). I swapped in a penin manifold (in fact, my grandfather took the car to the very inventor of this manifold, Mr. Nestor Penin) and having changed nothing besided that manifold the car started to behave VERY diffrent, more low end, nicer feel over the entire rpm range, even better economy. That's first hand experience. Unfortunately by the time grandpa died, I had to sell the car and I didn't have time to install back the stock manifold.

Supposedly penin tuned the runners on that manifold, gave them some sort of taper... he modified the cross sectional areas all over the piece, intalled the divider and reworked the plenums area... I can't tell what or how he modified cuz I was a young boy by that time (very young, I even had hair on my head, now that hair has either gone or moved to my body ) and even though I enjoyed fooling around motors, cars and good mechanichs, I wasn't able to fully understand what was going on....

I think that a good M1 intake can serve as a pattern so we can get a closed manifold so everybody can have their own custom setup machined without adapters... carters, holleys, solex, whatever carb one could want to install on a slant.

I'll try to get one penin manifold, as I've been trying hard for the last 5 years, but it's a long shot.

Well I talked to my friend and he is sending me some info on the casting and foundry process. I will talk with the Cox brothers for their in put today. Hey argentina-slantsixer if you need funds to acquire the intake let me know and I'll try to help(hired muscle ) with that.

1 piece aluminum Super 6 intakes were used on trucks in the early and mid '80's.

If you're going to cast an intake, why not come up with a good street 4 bbl intake that will solve the distribution problems of an Offenhauser?

Don't believe so...those were the 2-piece EB-welded items, as described in detail in SAE paper 780437.

well the Offy intake wont pass inspections in places like CA or NY where they do a visuale inspection if the cars emissions dont pass. If a 2bbl is on there you can say "It's stock". Its how they do emissoins here in az also.

So cast a four barrel with some dummy stud holes for the EGR halve. Paint it blue and the ricer at the IM stastion will never know the difference.

Certainly they will. Even the dumbest smog tech knows \6s didn't come with 4bbl carburetors.

If they come from the same labor pool that some of the parts clerks and tire techs I've run into do, I wouldn't bet too much on that.

Well, you've certainly got a point there, but it works for us just as much as it works against us: All the smog tech has to do is think it's non-stock, and you don't get your sticker.

Move to Florida. No inspection of any kind. You wouldn't believe some of the crap on the road.

It was my understanding that the state legislature passed califonia style emssions testing in 2004, to be phased in by 2008. I may be wrong, but I wouldn't start gloating just yet.

If true, I would like to thank all the enviro-facists, nut job, Democrats from the Pudget Sound area for these wonderful developments. As the saying goes, "vote the bums out". Too bad the "bums" control the three largest counties, which have enough voters to nullify the rest of the state, and are not above the fradulant useage of bogous ballots to win.

You may be right about the law. Fortunately, I think vehicles that are 25 yerars old or older are still exempt.

I beg to differ. I have owned 2 of them.

I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I can tell a one piece cast from a two piece welded.
