9/6/21

After a few years of not being competitive, breaking engines and just general dumassery... Ruster is back.

Rebuilt the Engine 2 years ago - Was chasing a Low Oil Pressure issue... I think I have that solved.

I upsized the AN Flex Line from the Pickup to the Pump form -10 to -12 and I bought the $$$$ good stuff to avoid quality and degradation issues on the suction side.

I also Got rid of the inner Liner Which I had in the -10 Hose - maybe it was causing turbulence and aerating the oil to the pump?

I also Rebuilt the Trans correctly this time (it survived for over 7 years of runs assembled improperly)

While the trans was out in July I also Added a Transbrake and coupled it to the 2 step function In MS3.

Once the driver leaned how to use the button and acclimated to a reverse pattern valve body (all A&A Transmission of course!) things were back to normal.

So this weekend I made it down Sikeston MO for the First Real Passes of the year!
Lotsa Driving to get there - was able to Stop 1/2 Way on the way out and back.

On Saturday I Went to spectate at the US Nationals - For as Much Racing I do, I Rarely Spectate and Have never been to a proper NHRA Event - The Rain foiled us seeing any Pro Categories make passes.. But Cool stuff to see nonetheless... I was in full tourist mode.

$crap...

Super Comp has some inline 6 action in it ... cool stuff.

Found this little Gem there - not sure if it's the original or a recreation.. but cool nonetheless!

Heading to Sikeston, I had the Sunrise Behind Me on I70...

I have never Driven over the Mississippi River.. So Was able to cross that off my list.

I raced this nice 64 Dart 270 1st Round.. Just like Lou's minus 2 doors and the post in the wrong place.

Got to Visit the Winner's Circle - That Final was Close - Joel Had me covered on the Tree but I Lifted to the tune of not breaking out by .0003( I think , Gotta Review that slip)

Was Treated to A fantastic "Golden Hour" All the way up I 57

Phewww that was a lot but worth it!

Toppppp Secret .. Like Rob's security clearance when he worked in Elizabethtown.... If you wanted to know you should have booked a flight like Stan and Team Green did.

:D

No records that's for sure.

I put the Coan Converter back in.. It like to go and test it every now and again.. I think It's slower than the midwest converter that I have. But It's just an assumption.. I will have to find time to toss the midwest converter in again.

Times ranged from 7.73 to 7.59

I have yet to find my Final Round slip - I may have gotten lost or misplaced, it could have blown out the car somewhere too. It's lonely packin' up without a crew..... and with all the chatting' I was the last one out of there.

Good seeing all the slant racers.
It was a 1200 mile round trip for me.
Mr. Big averaged 19 miles a gallon.

A couple of pictures I took.

Thank you for coming Greg! I watched your car pretty close, it amazed me how it looks kinda slow (and I know it's an illusion) until you hit 2nd, and then it looks like it was shot out of a cannon!

Is Uncle Tony going to use your car on his YouTube show?

Thanks for the Kind Words, Stan, Terry, Dennis.

It was fun to Chat with Uncle Tony and His Car is Claimed to be just as light if not lighter than Ruster, and Pull up next to him on a time trial and really get going.

I had a literal rising issue where the Header extension had rotted away.. I cobbled up some sheet metal patches to fix on there 2 weeks ago before leaving for sikeston MO.. Now I got it fixed properly.. Prolly the shiniest bit on the cart for now.

Rotted and rusted away:

Patchwork:... It held together for the Trip to Sikeston..

New Part... It's Too Heavy, but It shold outlast the car and owner.

How do you get a valid O2 reading with the bung so close to the exit?

Post subject:  Re: 1968 Valiant Ruster Racer IRWIN PA

When the engine is above say 2000 rpm it correct.. idling is not but for this application I am okay with that. I really just am concerned about wot readings anyway.
