Looks like a pretty nice cam, but you can do somewhat better. No way you should be running that will less than 4000 stall.

Static CR is 13.5:1? What is your max valve lift (set by springs used and valve spring retainer/guide clearance)? I guess it's a Mike J head, but I think anything over about 0.560" lift will not help you more. I'll look at Oregon lobes...

Lou
Yes, Static CR is 13.5 :1 - Yes it is a Mike J. Head.

I would have to go back to my hand written notes somewhere or Pull Valve Cover off to see what the Lash is.. so on paper..

0.550" Valve Lift @ 1.5 Rocker Ratio.
I am using a 1.6 Rocker. = 0.584" Valve Lift
0.584" - 0.028" Lash =
0.556" Valve Lift (on paper / Estimate)

At the Track today...
It seems that I would call this converter a 3000 RPM Stall unit.

Still running

First run off trailer is garbage.. but over a 10th faster on the 60' from last week with about the same barometer..

Successive runs may be better yet.. we shall see.

Mine doesn't care for anything less than 3800.

5.57 gears will cover up for too little converter somewhat. The other side of the coin is more converter will probably make it hard to hook consistently. Then you add more tire.

It's fun to experiment.

I have the shortblock that goes with your head Greg. Next time I go to the shop I'll see if the cam card is in the box with it.

3 runs from Saturday:
60'____1/8 Mile____MPH
1.6168____7.5682____88.170
1.6465____7.6004____88.100
1.6139____7.5825____87.690

Had a Pretty Stiff Headwind all day say ~10-20 MPH.

Going back to my notes I must have had a better Degreeing on the cam in 2016/17 as well as the PTC Converter which must stall at more than 3000 RPM.

This weekend, The Barometer was nowhere near the Level from my run notes but I did not seem gain anything going from the 4.56 to the 5.57 in the 1/8th - probably too many changes and iterations to compare.

My Ideas:
Need a Looser Converter
Check Cam Degreeeing.. maybe for more Top end / revs
Tire Size? Maybe try Ø29" or Ø29.5" I have Run Ø28" For well over 10 years.

Since I plan on doing away with the motor mounts, could you tell me about the thickness and how those ears are mounted?

I removed maybe 12oz. Metal from the underside of the car.. I need to get back to doing more of that.

Also swapped the 5.57 out for the 4.56 gear. Getting Ready for the spring mason dixon race.

Just need to put some fuel in it add the side skirts set tire pressures and load it up on the trailer.

Ruster is once again productive as a slant 6 racer and keen bracket car when the driver does his job.

It's always its good to be good, and sometimes its good to be lucky. I was lucky but not good this weekend.

I was able to make 18 Laps on 2 days of racing both 1/4 Mile and 1/8 Mile.

Barometric pressure, humidity, temperature were all favorable, not excellent, but good.

Ruster Ran
(Sunday in reverse chronological order)
11.82 -(Slant 6 Final) (Ruster gets the runner up.. on a double breakout that I was just 0.0013 too fast for    :D )
11.85
11.81
11.84
11.81
11.82
11.85
11.85
11.87 (first pass / cold)

Saturday
7.39 (Slant 6 Final) (Ruster wins)
7.40
7.39
7.44
7.42
7.42
7.42
7.43
7.49 (First pass off trailer / Cold)

Mason Dixon was a fantastic event and I will predict the Largest gathering of slant 6 drag racers this year in 2023, with 7 Cars for Saturday's 1/8 Mile Race and 9 cars for the Race on Sunday.

I have a list of stuff to work on, Alternator / charging issues / Swapping to a better alternator?

Motor mounting / Motor plate moving issues.
other small stuff.
Trying / buying a different converter.

Greg
