5/20/24

Back from the Mason Dixon Race.

Ruster Attempted and completed 9 passes over the one day of racing, entered in the "Pro MōPar" 1/8 mile class as well as a 1/4 Mile Slant 6 race.

I feel as if I went into a forest with a saw, I still was not able to find the tree  Oh well.

I set a new personal best 60' Time with the larger Ø29" x 11" slicks

TT1: 7.48 @ 89.95

TT2: 11.84 @110.35 - Personal best 60' time of 1.5723

TT3: 7.44 @ 90.69

TT4: 11.85 @ 110.02

E1: 7.44 @ 90.53 on a 7.43 Dial - Win - The opponent dialed my dial and broke out.

E1: 11.8411 @110.57 on an 11.84 Dial - Ken Anderson had a 0.010 Light to my 0.037 Light - I was closer to my dial by a few thousandths, but he clobbered me on the tree and got the well-deserved round win.

E2: 7.45 on a 7.44 Dial - Win - The opponent broke out.

E3: 7.45 on a 7.45 Dial - Win - The opponent broke out.

E4: 7.45 on a 7.45 Dial - Loss - I was closer to my dial than the opponent, but she had a much better light and cut me down on the tree again - a 0.037 to my snoozefest of 0.093 light.

Good times with Buddies and other Mopar Racers.

Here is what my drive to and from the track looked like:

Beautiful Sunsets both days/ways - even when driving west - It was sublime.

I had some help in preparing the car for the event too:

Yes a Bit, 110 in the 1/4. No where near my best of 112.

Also no 30 Mph headwind!!

Really nice video! Looks like the car is pretty deadly.

What is the switch in the dash you hold after the burnout, idle control?

Thanks guys!

That switch you are asking about is the electric fan - I turn it off for the run when staged, as It draws a lot of amps, then click it back on after the finish line.

I should somehow set it up through Megasquirt to automate the process, but I would also need a manual override for the cool down in the pits when hot lapping. Probably too much extra work and wiring to automate this easy-to-flip flippin' switch. :D

See, if you had towed out you could have seen it in person, I would even flip the flippin' switch for 'ya.. oh and you could have hung out with us east coast slant 6 crazies too!

I have a "solid state" timer on my fan. It is adjustable for almost any run time you want. Turn the manual switch on , and fan runs until the timer times out. If you need more cooling time, just turn the manual sw off and right back on (resets timer). If you don't want the fan to run, just leave the manual sw off. You do need to have the timer connected to a relay, it can't handle the current draw of the fan on it's own.

I put one on my Valiant, it works great. Most of you know I'm a "motor mouth". I used to occasionally get a dead battery due to leaving the fan and water pump running while I was off running my mouth or helping someone else. That timer solved my problem. A couple of other things I will mention, just FYI. I have a micro switch on the throttle that beside turning on the nitrous opens the alternator (approx 100 amp) field circuit and take that load off the engine while making a run (charges normally at other than WOT). When I had the 2-stage nitrous plate system, I used another solid-state timer (from the same company) that I could set within a couple of tenths of a second to start the second stage.

BTW, I do exactly the same thing as Greg on my cars. Elec fan on during/before burnout, turn switch off, stage, run...
