4-28-24:

I went to the local Test-n-Tune on Friday at the local Acceleration Testing Facility.

All went well - Nothing surprising.

It seems the car might be a bit faster on the 60' times by a few hundredths, and also the wider and taller slicks seems to have slowed down my MPH by ~4MPH from 111-112 to 108, not super happy about that.

All 3 runs were in a pretty good headwind, so that might have something to do with it.

I put down 2 1/4 Mile passes that were exactly the same so if anything, the taller / wider tires make things way more consistent somehow, or maybe that is just because they were brand new slicks?!??!!
Greg, you really want to run the smallest slick that is consistent. On my old Mercury Cougar we had something like 13x32's originally. Couldn't get the car on my trailer with those tires, so had an old pair of 9x28's that we used just for transport. One day at the track it looked like rain so we didn't put on the big tires (didn't feel like changing tires in the rain). The car ran the best ET and MPH ever. Never put the big tires on the car again. PS: The cougar would 60 ft 1.58, 10.80's, 122 mph with the smaller tires.

Also when I ran 3/8 mile circle track, I was DQ one night for tires being too big (had to run street tire no larger then a certain size.) I put on a smaller tire (same dia, smaller width) and my lap times got quicker.
Comes down to rolling resistance, and rotating mass.

I did that at Clay City when I debuted the car. Did you know the needle on an Autometer mechanical gauge will go way past 260 and not break? Yeah, me neither.

I always leave mine on. I has the dumbs sometimes.

8/11/24:

Went to a Special Saturday Test 'n Tune at the local Acceleration Testing facility.

Made 5 passes through changing conditions etc. All good.

Ready for Clay City.

I think I will try that 5.57 gear again before Knoxville. last Time I hyad it in there was on a no prep surface so I could not tell if it helped or not. :?:

I have some fun videos to post up - Just have to edit them a bit.

Greg

Here is some documentation.

After watching a few runs - I need to get a looser converter.. I have been saying that for years, just need to actually do it. When leaving off of the TB button, it pulls the RPM down / lugs the engine probably further than it should / is ideal.

What stall do you have now Greg? Mine is a used 8" PTC I got from Howard that went 5200 in his car.

Pretty sure it is 3000 or lower.

Folks have told me how to test this, but all 3 converters that I have bought and used are too low of a stall for this car.

The other side of the coin is that your car has been known to print timeslips. That's a good thing for bracket racing.

I personally prefer a loose converter, especially with a lot of gear in the rear. Big gears tend to tighten the stall, lower numerical gears will tend to loosen the converter a couple hundred.

IMHO.

You connect the converter to your 1962 TV so you can receive digital channels. :P :P :P

Also, a converter is a groovy thing that the cheap and hip guys from the 1970's and 80's would add to their rides to get FM on the Stock AM radio. Radio Shack Had a bunch of them.

That's me (cheap). Got one on the shelf. Maybe I'll put it in my 64 Valiant cruiser.
