Don't get me wrong I love the Guys at Indy like brothers, They make and build fantastic product, I understand the logic, I just like to be different (most say that abnormal is the proper term) You should see the looks I get when talking about a poly 318 build for Nostalgia Super Stock !! |

i did not mean to question their parts or business practice, just the mentality of the so called cookie cutters, all big and all small blocks get boring but a slant engine never ![]() |

I can build a 10 second pig block for slightly more than what I have in my 12 second Slant, and I will for my Duster. I really enjoy having a fast Slant, but in that freaking money pit Duster economics comes into play. I still feel that a nitrous Slant is a really cool way to have a fully streetable 12 second car that does not cost a fortune. ![]() |

Quote: Bone-stock engine + a 60 HP shot gets my 3000 lb car a 15.80 time slip.
Doc;DD ![]() Why did you use this set up on a 1-barrel intake set up? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of increasing the overall airflow? Or is the 1-barrel intake a safety valve feature, limiting the overall rpms that you will turn with nitrous oxide? This is a cool looking set up and apparently runs good. What gearing and torque converter are you using? What rpm level are you applying the nitrous and what rpm level do you shift at? Are you running headers or a larger exhaust system? David Gibson |

Why did you use this set up on a 1-barrel intake set up? I needed a car to race for the 2005 season and the car I had in process was my "all stock" 1bbl Dacuda. I installed this system onto the car and "tested it" a week before the Las Vegas race that year. Quote:
Doesn't the 1bbl defeat the purpose of increasing the overall airflow?
NO2 carries it's own air. Inject the juice into the intake, after the carb and it does not matter what size the carb is.Quote:
Or is the 1-barrel intake a safety valve feature, limiting the overall rpms that you will turn with nitrous oxide? You are thinking this through much more then I did at the time I installed the system. My thoughts at the time were more like: " I wonder if the engine will melt if I stick this NOS system on it? ... I know how we can find out!) The 15.80 time slip was with stock engine, stock converter a factory exhaust manifold with a 2 1/4 pipe for the first 4 feet, then a "dump-out" cap. 3.55 posi gearing with my 225 - 55 x 15 front tire / wheels moved to the rear, with 20 psi to keep them from spinning. I have both a button and a "peddle switch" to turn-on the NO2. At the track, the peddle switch triggers the system right off the start. On the street, I use the button and hit the juice as soon as the car gets rolling. (unless you want to go out with a "smoke & squeel" show) DD ![]() |

I've been told that spray actually favors a smaller carb, but I have no accurate data to enforce that. ![]() |

I am going the old school way: a little bore +0.08, a little cam 268, a little compression 10:1 and some balancing. I should have the motor back for the balancing shop in the next few week. When I get back to life I want to slap it on a engine dyno to help tune my pos holey 390 and perfect the timing. I will be sure to post my finding here a break down of cost mechine shop just under $700: bore, balance, crankresurfaces all new bears for crank and cam venoly pistion +.080 and 10:1 $500 cam and kit $400 Bolt ons: headers, intake manifold, carb new ele. ignition $800 not all at once |

Post subject: | satisfying slant buildup |
My formula for a satisfying slant buildup is a 225 with a rebuilt bottom end with stock style +.030 pistons, high volume oil pump, roller timing chain, Comp 265 cam, 318 valve springs, shave the head .090", do a 3 angle valve job and smooth out the bowls, a 4 bbl intake (Offy or Weiand), about a 500CFM 4 bbl (tried a 525 CFM Road Deamon, WOW!), 6 into 1 headers, a 2 1/4" exhaust with a low restriction muffler, choose your trans (if it's an auto give it a little converter), some 3.55 gears. Put it all in your favorite A body and you can drive it all day, and make a few people hate you at the track. I have built 2 slants with this basic arrangement, they both have a lot of miles and run great. ... Gary V. |
