Of the possible combinations used to make a performance SL6, which is the most cost effective, then which one is the most satisfying?

Reworked stock with higher compression, bowl work, etc....?

Stroker?

Turbocharger?

Supercharger?

I know this is largely subjective and really needs to be qualified based on the intended use, but I just gotta know what the consensus says.

One thing I would not do again would be the stroker. The cost is high and the benifit is not so high. Costs were higher than I had planned. I may prove myself wrong once we hit the dyno, but I don't think so. One bonus of a stroker slant I hope is going to car show telling veiwers about it and watching their eyes go cross-eyed and passing out.
I think headwork is the best place to spend money. Power adders are needed to go very very fast though.

Biggest bang for the buck is a 4bbl, headers, and nitrous.

When all the snow finally goes away I will have solid data on what a stock Slant will do in such a setup.

I would add a mild cam into the above formula but that still makes for a 'budget' build-up.
If you can get your hands on a cheap set of 198 con rods, (good luck) the 'long rod' engine is a nice combo.

I think Doc did a one barrel Nitrous set-up. I think he said it pulled like a SB.

Bone-stock engine + a 60 HP shot gets my 3000 lb car a 15.80 time slip.

I would add a "homebrew" low boost, turbo setup, into the mix. A little more expensive to do, up front, then nitrous. But once it is done, it is done. Nitrous is cheaper up front, but you got to keep filling the bottle. Also a turbo, can add variable amounts of power depending on throttle opening, where nitrous is full on or full off.

out of all the builds I have done the most bang for the buck was decking the block, nothing wakes a slant up like more comp. :D

Bang for the buck right now - Nitrous Oxide
It IS adjustable with a Jacobs Mastermind

Downside - you're always empty when you need it (on the street).
one screw-up and you've melted something.
temp. and press. of bottle critical to good performance

Most satisfying - Turbocharger done right. We have low compression strong engines that need breath - perfect. With EFI, hot ignition, and intercooler (air, water, NOS, water/alcohol inj.) the sky's the limit.

Stroker - Lord knows we got more stroke than we can use most times (3.7L). More stroke than most big-block V8's.

Conventional (heads, cam, etc.) - Life is full of compromises. This is one of them unless carefully thought out as a total package and then only at moderate power levels for a daily driver. Probably best in 2.8L high revver in a light car.

Supercharger - Easier to get installed over Turbo. Some losses in compressor drive and belt issues.

Just my 2 cents. - My 3.7L - aluminum stock 1 bbl./ 3.23/A904/'63 Valiant and staying that way. (I've got a 466 C.I. Ford street racer to keep me in check). I always wanted a small engine V8 killer, though, but mine was a 1984 1.6L Dodge Colt Turbo with a 30 HP NOS fogger that ran a best of 100.68 mph in the 1/4 mile back when GM was too embarrased to put the Z28 name on a Camaro and the Mustang GT was barely over 200 HP. Fun, fun, fun.

Not much to it, most everything is shown in the photo.
Note that I have a 3rd 'nos only' nozzle mounted in-board, between the inner manifold mounting bolt hole and the carb base opening. That nozzle sprays a small shot of pure NO2 right into the incoming A/F mix that is coming through the 1BBL carb.

The only trick, making sure you clear the carb. with the foggers and pointing the spray paths so you get good mixing with the incoming A/F.

I am very pleased with how this systems works, the distribution is great.
One of these days, when I have a new motor ready for the car, I will start "stepping up" the system until something melts.

i email the supercharger place and this is what they said
We do make kits for the slant six which can be viewed on our web site @ www.thesuperchargerstore.com and then click on photo gallery and then scroll down to slant six. That particular car has run mid 13's @ 102 mph which the computer says is making 380 horsepower. The price for our Slant Six Street Stalker Kit is $5795.00 and includes a P-1SC ProCharger, ProFlow Surge System, Stage 1 Water Injection System, custom built blow through carburetor, high pressure fuel pump and boost referenced fuel pressure regulator.
not too bad if you have the money
