Thought I'd chime in here on the cold start problems. In the mid 80's I was running Clifford headers and 4 barrel with a 600 CFM Eldebrock on my 65 Dart. No manifold heat at all. Pumped the gas twice and it fired right up, settled into a smooth idle, wait a couple of minutes and pull away. This was in a car I used for daily transportation here in VA (where it does get pretty cold - 14 above this morning)

On a V type compressor the support that goes to the block won't fit with the Hookers. I never did fab a replacement.

The Clifford Street Rod headers work well and fit well. Not the best possible design, but they've worked well for me. Here is my recommendation:

- Cliff headers
- buy a bona fide Flowmaster or similar Y-pipe with 2.25" inputs and 3" output
- run 2.25" pipes out of the engine bay down to 1" to 4" behind the trans X-member, then into Y-pipe
- 3" from Y-pipe back to muffler in front of rear axle
- Super Turbo or similar 3" ID muffler
- 2.5" or 3" from muffler back
- optional - short glass pack or resonator near back bumper to quiet everything down.

If you want to keep your present 2.5" exhaust (not recommended based on track times), get a 2"X2.5" Y-pipe at same position and run 2" pipes from headers to Y.

My question is in regards to the BOLD quote. Does Flowmaster make what I need? Also is there a part# you could provide.

Muffler 3" by 3" offset/offset OR
Muffler 3" by 2.5" offset/offset. Will there be a huge difference in power between the two and what about noise? Part# or link? I really hate the DynoMax muffler I now have which is a 3"x3" super turbo flow. http://tinyurl.com/2ogepq It drones badly. Maybe with the new design it would be different. I'd like to try Flowmaster or MagnaFlow this time.
I also plan to install 2 cuts outs just before the muffler, so I would really like to keep the tailpipe at 2.5" http://tinyurl.com/23s3y6 I only need to buy one more, as I already have the other one installed.
Resonator 2 1/2 to be installed along gas tank. http://tinyurl.com/2estv3 Something like what is shown. Other suggestions?

Happy to help, and I hope this gets you some solid gains. It should!

That is the correct Y-pipe, same as on my car.

Hmm, I have the 3-chamber 3"X3" Flowmaster on my car and feel it's too loud/drony. Thought the Dynomax would be better. I just put a resonator like that on my car and it helped. If you want quieter, the Thrush turbo should be quieter than either DMx or FLMstr muffs. 2.5" tail should be just fine. I have a Magnaflow on my Valiant, which sounds awesome, but it is a short exh system racecar, so noise not so important. Might be worth a try. Cameron Tilley likes Hooker Aerochambers, but noise not an issue for him either.

Why 2 cutouts before the muffler? Two inline in the straight section? I guess this would allow some exhaust tuning at the track...? Remember, the Y-pipe should join just behind the trans X-member, maybe put the actual Y junction 2-4" behind the X.

That Flowmaster Y is a nice piece. I have put 50,000 miles on one in my work truck.

I use the 2.25 to 3" Y .....then to a Flowmaster 50 http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku

The flowmaster 50 is much quieter than a 40.....mine is at least 30,000 miles old and is still fine. You wont need a resonator with this muffler.

Should be same 64 - 67 in that region. Can't remember part number, but that pic looks longer than mine. They angled mine upward somewhat into the axle well cutout, but it does fit and doesn't hang low.
