The compressor shown in that factory manual is not a Sanden. It is a Chrysler C-171. The sanden compressor will not fit on those mounts.
Thanks! That saves me following that wild goose.
Which gets back to the original question, on what years and models did Chrysler install a Sanden compressor on a slant 6?

If you found those mounts, you could use the C-171 compressor. A Sanden is not mandatory. The two compressors have similar operating characteristics.
As for the applications for the Sanden, I would have to look through my old books. Not going to have the time, for awhile. If I remember correctly, most of the sanden applications, were dealer installed units, or aftermarket.

From the picture you provided in the manual, it looks like the Sanden would be shorter. If your planning to install in the rear most pulley, that would be benificial.

I believe the Sanden SD compressor was factory equipment on at least some 1978 air-conditioned F-bodies, and probably other applications around that time, though the C-171 is much more common on the post-'76 applications after the phaseout of the V2 compressor.

The Sanden compressor is shorter, and has a considerably better reputation than the C-171.

Correct. I have seen the sanden on factory systems, just don't remember the year/model, at this time (I have CRS).

The C-171 compressor is being built by "Universal Air", Part number CO-0009. It is a "new" compressor, not rebuilt. My supplier has them available for $229.50

PS: I am trying to locate a source for a M&D for a Sanden , using the rear pulley.

These "new" compressors deserve the quotation marks...they're copycats out of China. I have one on my truck (didn't realise what I had got until too late). It works passably, not great, and it's noisy. Finest "most favored permanent normal trading partner" quality, you betchya.

I wonder what might be available in Australia.

Well i'm going to tackle installing this afterall:

http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/parts/ ... d-434.html

My dad owns a machine shop so I have CNC access to making custom brackets. I will let you guys know of my progress. Hopefully I can make a cool bracket for the SE-709 in a convienent spot (like the power steering area) and have it work.

If this is successful I can make brackets for others that are interested...stay tuned.
