Put me down for 3-4 maybes.I have 3 friends and myself that are trying to get cars together for next weekend.I have a suggestion, maybe we could start with a rookie race for people that never raced before. They could run one at a time so safety could be maximized and they wouldn,t have an open header car in the next lane to confuse them. Two of my friend have never raced before.

Hey Bigslantfan,

Just want to be sure that you have the right dates for the race. It is in May, not March. You mentioned next weekend and that would not be correct for the Mason Dixon race.

As for your friends and your concerns. Lou may chime in here with more helpful info later. But tell them that they will get to run a couple of time trials before any racing starts. The track folks will send 2 cars up to the starting area all the time because it would just take too long doing one at a time. I think there will be a lot of new, first time racers and they need not be afraid. The slant 6 folks that are there will be glad to walk them through the steps of what they need to do. Plus I think most of the folks planning to come are running street cars. I hope a few fast "race" cars show up, but most are street cars.

Since they are new to racing, google bracket racing and get them familiar with the basics. They have 2 months to get up to speed. And remind them it does not matter how fast they go it is consistency that matters.

I'm excited that they are planning to come. It looks like a good turnout for a first time race, and they may be able to take home some $$$ if they are consistent.

Rick

I think there may be a bracket racing article here on the site. If I find it I'll try and post a link to it.

Here is the link to the article:

Bigslantsixfan,

Maybe your buddies would want to come to test'n'tune on Saturday night? We can pair them up with our own non-open-header Slant friends and make it easier to concentrate. Yes, they will also get at least 2 practice runs on Sunday.

Glad you are coming and I hope your friends can come too. A friend of mine borrowed my '68 Dart 4 yrs back, never having been down a dragstrip, and runner'd up the race (N. Wilkesboro)!! Ya never know!

Lou

Where are we at for attendees now? 4 wks to go...

Jim Cox called me and said he and Faith will probably come.

Sounds like we have a few others from MD/DE area...

Frank and Cinda Brent say they're pretty definite now.

Anybody else?? This could be really big!

Lou

Ok folks, The Winners trophy was ordered today so let's make this a great first time race. As Lou said, please let us know if you are coming for sure.

Ryan's Dart is running and the Front end was aligned yesterday. It still has some issues to work on this week. But if we get it ready to go, Ryan bought a 84 short bed pick-up with Slant 6 and 4-speed OD. It needs some work too, but there is a slight possibility that we may have 2 vehicles there. In case anyone is wondering, it may just be the world's slowest vehicle!! :D :D 0-50 is measured in minutes, not seconds!

I will be there, dont know if I'll be in the Swinger or the convertable. If the Swinger is sold by then I'll be in the convertable.

Sounds great, Phil!

Rick, good job on the trophy. I've seen some pretty slow full size Slant trucks. 23 sec 1/4 mile?? Hope you can bring both.

Lou

Even If I get the truck in decent shape, it will still be very very slow. Lou your 23 seconds in the 1/4 is probably a close guess. I think I could out run it on foot to the 60ft timer. Its all stock, has the lean burn, and not in good tune. Hopefully it will be in slightly better shape by the race. Someone has to have the slowest vehicle there.

Ok, The trophy is in hand. I guess that means it is for real, Huh?

Deducting the cost of the trophy from the rods I sold, means I have $168 left that goes to the purse. So everyone come on out and join us.

For those worried about being novices. My son Ryan has only ever raced once, and my other son, Denny, who has given in to the pressure to drive the world's slowest truck in the race, has never raced. And if I end up racing it will be the first time since 1980! If my math is correct that will make me a novice too !!! So come on out and have some fun.

Rick Covalt :D

I'm planning on attending if the weather holds. Think they'll let me drag race my stocker with the top down? I've never drag raced it but I will and would be surprised if it broke 19 seconds in the 1/4.

Great! That's 2 more for the list (updated). The real race is Sunday, so afmsracing can join us for that.

Pat, you may have to have top up, but not sure about that track.

Lou

Thanks for the 2 new Guys!

I have been passing afmsracing (Maynard) on the road here in Waynesboro and did not know how to contact him. Every time I thought I could wave him down, there was a bunch of traffic. Anyway, he found the site and sent me an e-mail out of the blue. How cool is that! Plus his Dart and my sons Dart are both yellow and black. Looks like we could have a great turnout !

Pat great your coming too! But I think your top will have to be up.

I think Seymour should slide on down and make it 23. What do you think Lou?
