The outer seals job is only to keep the bearing grease in and dust out of the bearings. If the inner seal fails, the outer will not keep axle oil from leaking out and will ruin the bearings. Been there, done that.

got the gears back in and about ready for the axles.

if i fill the bearings with grease before insertion, should i also fill the bearing cavity or would that be putting too much pressure on the gaskets.

Just "pack" the bearing with grease and install the axles.

What Doug said..I like to use one of them needle fittings on my grease gun to get between the rollers. I also use a big socket (can't remember the size) to pound in the inner seal. Its a socket used for Dodge and GM truck axles on 4X4 trucks.

i have one of those needles too. that is what i'm planning to use.
i made my own "seal pusher inner" this time. i don't have one of those sockects u mention.

i got some whit PVC plumbing adaptors. the closest size to the bearing cavity was just a bit too large in diameter. the wire wheel on my grinder motor allowed me to shape it to the size i needed, it went in quite niceley this time.
i'm hoping for better results this time.

axles in and sealed up today. add some 6* pinion shims and got the drive shaft setting at approx 1* neg when stagnant.

just need to bleed the brakes and get the wheels back on to find out if that inner seal did the trick. axle end play is set at about .015".

thx for the input!

I have found everything I need on E-Bay..............and I do mean everything. From mopar kits to aftermarket lockers. even found parts that were repopped like that small pin. the green brgs have improved to the point that you can use them everyday...........just don't go driftin or road racin with them.

best regards ..max
