Check the ignition base timing first.
It should be something like 2 1/2 to 5 degrees BTDC I believe not not positive.

Next, check to make sure the vacuum advance in the distributor is working and is advancing the timing.
Then check to make sure the centrifugal advance is working.

These are the first and most economical places to check for something like this.

i have been read about carb jet maybe you guys can educate me on how that work to get better gas milage if i get a smaller on the better the gas milage is right ??

I don't know as the only ones I have had on my stuff have been the holly front bowl carbs (they used to be called "fish bowl" because many years ago they had glass float bowls) talk about safety risks.

1974 #58 Jet

1975+ #61 or #612 close limit jet

Which ever jet you use, you have to change the linkage settings on the carb to match the year/jetting you installed.

Which linkage are you looking for? Throttle? Kickdown? What specifically is the problem?

I agree with Newport77. Do the easy & cheap stuff first, especially you go hauling off and taking a carburetor apart. I'm assuming that you're not using the two position throttle. That makes any engine get poor fuel economy.

My repair manual shows that timing should be set at TDC for the 225.

While making these checks, look for vacuum leaks. Cracked hoses and plastic fittings are among the usual suspects.

Throwing parts at it wont likely solve your issue. You should go to get it looked at by one of the guys near you if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

Trust me, Fopar doesn't bite... much...

Rob (DI) was telling you to SET the linkage to match the year of the jetting size, not to get a different linkage set-up. You have my phone number, give me a call.
