I fussed with mine for YEARS before getting it to work well. In the long run it would have been far easier to change K members to the 73 and later. You will also need the later steering box, as the later pittman has a larger shaft.

I actually started this adventure with a 72 duster back in 74. I never got that right. Problems are manifold. About two years ago I got the set up to work well on the current Dart, after 20 years of fussing. The 73 and later set up works well as is.

So, I have the steering arm, I have to get new pitman and idler, I thought that was all...so you're saying I need the steering box as well? Ugh. Are the power steering lines the same? I don't want to change too much just for the K...

thanks,

Brian

If it's power steering you may not need to change the box.
Are you using the 1967 center link and the 1968-1972 idler and pitman arm, or the 1973-1976 Centerlink and idler and pitman arm?

I currently have the '67 set up with power steering. I have a '73-76 K frame (please see "K frame" discussion for some questions/pics) and the steering arm for '73-76. I'll get the pitman and idler for '73-76. Do I also need to get a different power steering box? If so, what about the pot coupler, does that fit or did they change that in '73-76?

I have '73-76 LCA's with sway bar tabs, UCA's for '73-76, and 10" drum spindles so I can eventually do a disc brake conversion.

thanks,

BG

No you shouldn't need a new box, it all should fit right up. Manual steering boxes were the same 1962 on up, but there is a sector shaft sizing difference change during that time (commonly found on truck manual steering boxes).

If you already have the steering arm, that's the pitman arm, you just need the idler arm. Did your Adler book come in yet? (Most of this is covered in there.)

Oh, I misnamed the bits...yes, my book came in, thanks.

I thought the pitman was the arm on the steering box, the idler arm was the pivot arm on the other side that swivels from the K frame, and the steering link was the bar to which they were both connected (along with the tie rods). Of course I have to get the newer ball joints as well.

Did anyone get a chance to read my "K frame" entry and let me know if I should be worried about those welds?

thanks all,

BG

Oh I see, I called it the "steering arm" instead of the "steering link" my mistake, too many "arms" in that discussion...
