Hi Robert,,
Hope I am not too late.

I live in San Diego,, Imperial Beach to be exact.
I am no mechanic,, but I have been able to bring my slant 6 to life and then some thanks to the advise on this forum.

Autozone and Oreilly will let you borrow a coolant or radiator leak test kit. It will tell you if any combustion gasses are escaping to you cooling system.
You tube "How to tell if your head gasket is blown" This will let you know if its the head.

I would also do a cylinder compression test, sometimes bad rings will cause smoke. (Although more knowledgeable people here seem to think it could be your engines head.) (I have clanged those too)

And please feel free to reach out to me. I will help as much as I can. I am close by and have a few tools, at least enough to keep my slant running very fine.

greetings Enrique,

I appreciate your response and NO, it isn't to late. Still have the same problem but have put the van on the back burner for now.

If and when I move ahead in the project van arena, I may let you know.

Thanks again for the response and have a great day.

P.S. from all I have read, etc.. it is a blown head gasket on my straight six engine. Runs great but massive amounts of white, irritating, smoke.

Thanks again.

I am glad to hear that it is not to late.
I have changed head gaskets on my slant 6, I have the needed tools.
Let me know when you are ready. I would be glad to help.

You will need a head gasket set, and a set of new head bolts.

The only place I found that sells the new bolts is Summitracing.com.

you will also need antifreeze, and silicone.

Slant six head bolts are reusable if in good condition. They are not torque-to-yield bolts which do require replacement after each use.

I don't understand a mechanic saying he can't get engine parts. I've never had to wait more than a day or two to receive any standard rebuild parts from a warehouse in the Dallas area.

Finding a good, inexpensive, re-buildable head should be just as easy. When I installed a newer engine in my Valiant, I couldn't even give the old one away.
