Just a little side note- if you have any exhaust system leaks upstream (or within 12-18 inches downstream) of your oxygen sensor, that will skew the reading towards lean. As exhaust pulses go through the system, you have "low" pressure waves that will suck outside air (oxygen) into the system. Especially at low flow conditions such as idle.

Heck, the leakage past the heat riser valve shaft on a stock slant manifold would likely be enough to mess up (lean out) the reading some.

Yes, no leaks allowed. The other thing is that if you are way too rich (>10:1 AFR or so), then it can put the fire out (misfire) and look lean. Both WB and NB suffer from these problems, so don't give up on your personal sensors and intuition...
