Starts and then dies immediately? Where does the HEI module and coil get their battery voltage?

They are getting juice from a single pole single pole relay which is being fed from the large alternator terminal. Switched source to operate the coil.

Where is the switched 12v source from?

From the ignition switch, I jumpered off the terminals that used to go into the ballast resistor (which it's now bypassed). As soon as I turn the switch, the relay closes.

Did you try swapping the two wires that go from the module to the distributor?

Are you 100% sure the coil's primary (small) wires are the right way round? Wrong way round = engine will run but not very well and poor-quality spark.

Yeah, there's + and - symbols on the coils pigtail port that I hooked on to, 12v from relay to coil and - to module.

Fixed!!! All this time it was a bad coil, oredered a new coil, now I got slight orange/ strong blue and white spark. What a relief! Thank you all so much for hard work and dedication for your fellow slant6'ers and country!!!

Now you did go back and apologize to your lowly HEI module, right? :D :D We wouldn't want his feelings to be hurt! :D :D

Good to know the fix, congratulations!
