Like I said, I haven't forgotten this post. I received the Laser parts late this week, fixed the laser and cut some test parts that turned out really nice. Now I'm in the middle of a very busy weekend at this facility. By the end of the week, I will cut test files, checked fitment, and posted the final, workable, DXF/DWG that can be used by any laser, plasma, waterjet cutting firm to produce a valve cover spacer or gasket.

Sorry it's taking so long, but this isn't my day job, just something I'm lucky enough to have access too.

Hi Guys,

Finally got the parts for the laser and repaired it. Modified drawing with wider corners and corrected length. Last night I burned another template and it fits great.



Unfortunately, the forum software will not allow me to attach .DXF or .DWG drawings. It doesn't allow those extensions. I tried uploading after renaming without the extension included, but the forum recognized the the file types anyway.

So if you want the files I will need to email them to you. PM you're email address, and I'll forward a copy of the files.

I went to sendcutsend.com and quickly got a laser quote. I've found Send Cut Send to have the lowest prices for smaller quantities than other online laser cutters, and the service and quality has been excellent.

Prices include shipping.

Least expensive:

1/4" Aluminum 2024 T3

1 Spacer = $70.49
2 spacers = $49.34ea or $98.68 total to your door.

Note: ***They do not offer 3/8" in 2024 T3 alloy.

Least expensive 3/8":

3/8" Aluminum 5052 H32

1 spacer = $148.70
2 spacers = $102.80ea or $205.60 total

6061 alloy is quite a bit more expensive.

I asked Chuck several years ago if he would make it possible to post CAD files such as dxf and dwg extensions within the CAD/CAM discussion subforum and he did. I've shared some of mine with people on here before. Wonder why its no longer working....?

what would it take to modify the existing valve cover spacer file to incorporate the dog leg on the lower front valve cover area that makes the hydraulic heads unique?

Personally I prefer the hydraulic heads as they were cast using the foundry core and casting technology of the 1980's which was significantly more stable for port and water jacket wall thickness compared to the foundry core and casting technology that was used in the 1970's and 1960's.

First, Dadtruck, I sent you a PM about the Hydraulic version. If someone can send me a gasket, or provide the dimensions of the needed changes, I can update a new drawing.

Now the news on this project.

I had two spacers laser cut by SendCutSend a couple weeks ago. The least expensive option for my application was .187" thick 5052 H32 Aluminum at $49.57 each, I bought two for free shipping. There are other alloys and thicknesses, however, two in that size delivered for just under $100 in less than a week was the best math to give me options.

Here is what they look like. Great finish, only minor deburring with a fine file provides a nice, light weight solution.








Very happy with the results. The engine the slant head is resting on, is a 1970 426 Hemi I'm building for a 70 Roadrunner. It's been a nightmare, and was originally sold by fraudsters. It had come from a flood, or the bottom of the ocean, or a swampy southern junk yard. Full of rust and everything had to be redone to save it. Ready to assemble the short block this week. A story unto itself, but this forum is for /6's.

Hello, I apologize for the delayed response,,

I contacted Greg O, provided him with a hydraulic head valve cover gasket and he made the changes in the data file necessary for a hydraulic head valve cover spacer to be produced.
The VC needs to be raised to clear the longer stem valves and the B3 rocker stands. I have the 68 B put away for the winter.
It will be spring before I get my hydraulic head VC spacer cut.
