I would LOVE one in a two door. I would also love another parking space for it, and my insurance to be less than $300/month. Otherwise I would have to give up my slant. :(

Even so I still love the idea of a car that weird with an engine that monstrous in it. No one would ever know what to make of it. I can just see Hunter S. Thompson ramming that car through Los Angeles traffic at 90 mph with a glass of Wild Turkey in his hand and a cigarette with a 9" holder in his mouth.

Post subject:  72 or 73 dust

I think the duster is a 73 cuz of the raised side turn signal indicators..How's that for my first response as a new member???As far as the 62 dodge ? When are people going to realize that this particular year is very appealing ???

Johnny, hate to break it to you but the raised style sidemarkers were started in 72, at least in the duster line ;) The 72 duster 340 parts car I bought had raised sidemarkers just like that in the picture.

the fact that the barracuda's rear trim is flat black might be an indication of something, but am not sure.

as long as your sure,Ithink it maybe a 72 due to the fact the 73 may have had more plastic material between the body and back bumper as the 73's had more of an extended bumper due to govt. regulations and went along w the big bumpergaurds? Othrwise we've got to see the rear tailight treatment. The the seats maybe able to tell us something if we could see them.

correct me if I'm wrong, but the golddusters had a type of "gatorgrain" vinyl roof materials, and was always a "half" treatment. decals gold, white,or black?????

I met with the owner yesterday at his work place. We are going to get together tomorrow at his yard and go through the whole place. I'm taking my camera and a note pad this time. VIN numbers, trim styles, engines, and rearends will be recorded. I'm not getting my hopes up, but will keep my fingers crossed. I sure hope the Barracuda isn't a pile of junk. It scares me that the rear window is busted out. No telling what the floor pans look like.

Keep the faith,
Jerry

 its ok, you can tell me. no one else is listening. i got a decent size backyard, no house payment, no job. i could probably fit 5 of em out back. but i must say, i would go for #1, 3 and 5.

by the way, thanks for braving the briars.

OK, here we go....
Cecil was correct on all counts. You know your MOPARS.
The bad news is that all the Dusters were in pretty bad shape. The interiors were ragged out for the most part.
All were slant six models.
Most had previous body work with LOTS of Bondo.
The property owner damaged one fairly badly moving it through the trees.

As for the Barracuda....
Rear window and both right side windows were broken out.
About two inches of water was sitting in the driver's side floor pan.
The passenger side was rusted through.
The spare tire well was rusted through, but the rest of the trunk was mostly just surface rust.
The upholstery was in bad shape.
The package area behind the rear seats was covered in about 4 inches of leaves and debris. Obviously, surface rust on the metal panel, but couldn't tell if rusted through.
Body was fairly straight.
Rusted through quarters.
Front bumper chrome peeling off.

Engine severely covered with rat's nest. The owner is an old-timer mechanic. He didn't think the V8 was a 318, because he thought they were painted some color other than the red found on this one's valve covers. I guess it's possible someone in the past painted them. How can I determine exactly what size it is?

Notice that the rear panel has the "Formula S" badge. Here is the VIN, maybe someone can tell whether it really is one.
VIN #BH29F9B189280

Here's a few pics.

Obviously, I'm a little let down by its overall condition. I knew not to get my hopes up. You just don't see that many of these in central Texas. We haven't talked price yet, so I'm not sure it's even something I would want to mess with, or not.

Let me know what you think about its possibilities,
Jerry

Well judging by the vin the barracuda is a 318 car. The rear panel is worth something since that apparently came off a Formula S car.

Here is a link to decod the VIN # .

Thanks Tom,
Any idea what the production number is for Formula S models that year?
What do you think about the prospects of refurbishing it? Too far gone?

Jerry
