A 198 crank in a 225 block will give you a 198. All Slants have the same bore size.

What did you think I thought. I believe I spelled out the reason pretty plain
"yes the physical dimensions are the same but the blocks were thinner by 1980. I plan to get another early 60s block and use the 198 crank. "

I want a 198 stroke. if I use a 198 block like the one I had I know from sonic checking that i can only bore it to .080" oversize and have even a minimum safe wall. If I use a early 225 block like i have I can go as much as 3.56 bore which i already have done and run for two years as a 225 type engine . I dont like the long stroke of the 225. It puts piston speed in the twilight zone above what is in engine building considered safe limits. If the engine was to pushed to 7000 say.(4806 feet per minute which is 806 above what is consdered reasonably safe. ) With the shorter stroke of the 198 and providing i could bore another early 225 block the same as I already have done in my rail, I could have over 200 cubes with good rev potential from a safety standpoint. I built a 198 for my wife back in the 70s. It was a good working motor and ran mid 15s . It did not seem to suffer any lack of power despite being smaller than a 225.
SO I personally want a shorter stroke than the 4.12 of the 225 but I want a block that can be bored to use the same part no pistons I am running in my other engine. If I use an early 60s 225 block and my 198 crank with my favorite big bore pistons that will get me where I want to be safely. And I like to be where I want to be.
Don

Any Updates?
Updates....Mmm. Projected goal next year is a 10.50. New header, maybe some head work, see if my 1972 vintage bearings need to be replaced, intercooler placement change and upgrade, higher gear ratio, new slicks, possible megasquirt, wax the paint, main studs, trans shield, port the intake....oh yea, and a thicker seat cover.

Guys. I have a new idea. Why build a 200 hp slant. Let's run the ice races with what Chrysler gave us. 80 hp should be just fine!!!

I think the 80 hp would be a little out classed. Them Ice draggers are pretty serious. Go you youtube if you haven't already. Maybe we could get a Slant race on ice in MN or WI!
