Go for it! You don't need a different coil.

Thanks Dan! This is next on my list after getting my 64 dart back together. I want to make sure it runs correctly with the stock ignition first.

My only other concern is to make this conversion look as "stock" as possible.

Sorry to bother again but could I also use the module from this blazer as well? I thought I read on here that it's not recommended but see over here were you mention it will work fine.

I guess the down side would be getting a replacement if the module goes bad.

Yah, as you wish. There is an advantage to the 8-pin module; see this thread on another board. The linked computer dingus is certainly interesting, but I'm not jumping on it because there's something much better in the works, not too long in the future. Can't say more than that...

...yet.

I am building up the parts needed slowly here and there for my hei swap. Duster Idiot recurved a EI dizzy for me and I have a coil bracket from a ford truck and the MSD coil from same truck.

I did a search and didn't see this idea brought up maybe its has and I missed it.

I started to think about the plug wires. Instead of doing the magnacore wire set would it be possible to use a set from a ford 300 4.9L? I like using off the shelf items when ever posible on wear items. Any one know if it would not work or any thing I am over looking?

:?

Hi, just about to do this HEI 4 pin / high output coil thing, but are getting stuck which components to order.
Can someone help me out with how to identify the right quality 4 pin module, as I will be ordering online offshore. Is it a particular manufacturer / country of manufacturer, that I should be looking for, or are all modules pretty much the same.
Looking at the Summit website and their MSD Streetfire module 5596 that looks like a standard 4 pin module, BUT is described as a multi spark. Is this an error, if not do the other modules from different manufacturers do this too, or are they special on their own.

Also getting stuck on the coil to purchase. Many websites just describe their coils as high output. What is a good output to be looking for?
Looks aren't important, but the msd 2 coil will be in keeping with the original look. Are these ok to use, and will I be disadvantaged that much compared to using a transformer coil.

Cheers
Peter

Have a look at the sticky above (under Electrical section)
HEI electronic ignition retrofit, How to... Everything you need is covered there

Thanks to all that have added to this thread. It is getting lengthy but well worth the read if you are doing the conversion. I am just going to add my two cents and include a couple of pics. It has been a little challenging because of the anal nature in which I go about doing things. The conversion itself would have been simple had I not placed so much importance on making it look as natural in the vehicle as possible. As it turns out it ended up pretty much where everyone elses does except it is closer to the front of the vehicle, and yes the hood still closes. I was a bit confused by how much emphasis was placed on the ground wire for the module. In my case the module is mounted to a piece of aluminum angle which is attached to a clean paint free surface with SS sheet metal screws. I dont see how I could get a much better ground. In any event the job is complete, along with a complete rewire of the engine compartment as well as a fuel line modification. I have a few issues to work out but it cranks right up so thats a good start. Here are a couple of pics..http://s1305.beta.photobucket.com/user/ ... ds,%20Mark
