Cool project! Heres my 2 cents. If you haven't purchased the BT Demon yet, maybe go for a 4150 and save $300 or more. I have the 575 BT and still have a bit of trouble with it. I'm figuring it out but it ISN'T a bolt on and go unit like they say. I have the Engnbldr valves and seem to hold up fine even after hitting the pistons. I shift at 5200 and leave the line anywhere from 3800 -4200 w/ 20+ psi and no nitrous. Turbo is a custom Garret T70 from fellow slanter Gerry at www.gpopshop.com I also use the Hyper Pack Clifford manifold. I'm not saying you should buy a clifford. What maybe you should do is get a fat runner intake or port one out. Intake manifold runner volume should be about 15% larger than intake head ports. Just remember, we can buy all the big name parts but if the combo ain't right, it's gunna flop. Good luck! Later Ryan |

Ryan, Thanks for chiming in. What is the idea behind the 15% bigger manifold ports?? Slant on, Lou |

Hey Lou, I think Ryan's car should definitely be an article in the SSRN. ANy detailed turbo info would be well received. There is a lot of interest out there. Rick |

Does this mean I'm the target? No not really it's what I'm going for to start out with. What kind of holley? Just a normal holley carb. |

Quote: Ryan,
I was chit-chatting with Hughes engines awhile back about my dads 318 turbo motor and he explained to me that enlarging the intake runners to roughly 15% over head ports makes the ports work the way they should. If the intake is same or to small, the flow will get lazy after it reaches the head port. Hence, leaving port work useless. My head only has bowl porting, not even gasket matching or smoothing. I think this helped my build and not realizing it. Tom (shaker223) split an intake to fix this problem. Didn't Dutra build a big port H-P intake for this reason? The Clifford H-P one I have is good size but not like Dutra's (?). I believe Tom is running a 4150 600cfm holley double pumper and likes it. If I were you and want to spend $600 + on a carb, scrimp alittle somewhere else and go EFI. Later

So is the rest of the build ok to start with. What kind of hp do you think this motor will make with the parts that I told you about. Looking to get about 300 to 500 hp. I will go with a 600 4150 holley carb. |

I'm roughly around 425 rwhp. Was dynoed at370 w/ less tune. Parts look good so far. Devils Own meth injection seems to work well for me. My intercooler tubing is 3". What size is your BOV and Wastegate? My BOV is to small. Its a Greddy Type-rs. Wastegate is 60mm and works good. I have no boost controller. Would like to but what I use works fine for now. Use Erson lifters and you can always put roller rockers on when you get the bugs worked out of the motor. Stock ones will work for awhile. Looks like a good start to me. Remember RPM kills. I don't care to spin mine over 5200. 5000 would be even better. Later |

Lots of good advice from Ryan there, especially the RPM kills bit. 5000-5500 is a good target for redline and can still make huge HP. Lou |

With a turbo, definitely. BTW, ignore RPM ranges from cam companies for their Slant 6 cams. They have no testing and are only guessing. Lou |

Quote: i wasnt going to run an engine driven fan it robs hp not much but it still does, so i have piston, rods, valves, crank for a start ok so is this turbo too big a GT-K 450 Turbocharger, is this a good cam http://www.compperformancegroupstores.c ... HRY466Cams Two problems I see with this cam. 1. This is a hydraulic cam and will not work for you unless your engine is set up for this, the factory ran solid cams up until 1980 or 1982, I can’t recall for right now.Quote: ok first off im only 15 so im just starting off, and the tires are drag radials, this is what i got so far, i will use k1 technologies slant 6 h beam rods with wiseco pro tru forged flat top slant 6 .045 overs, use a stock crank, have the heads and the block machined, use a erson cam, use engine parts network valves, snow performance water/methanol stage 2 gas boost coolers, use a 650 cfm Mighty Demon Blow-Through Carburetor on a offenhauser manifold, use a Turbonetics GT-K450 Turbocharger, with an intercooler with a Duo-35 Gunmetal BOV and a Evolution Wastegate and a Turbonetics Variable Boost Controller, have a pace fabrication motor plate. put Hughes 9'' 3500 stall that what i have so far... where can i locate a roller rocker arm, some lifters Sweet, so good to see a fellow teenage slanter. I’m currently 17 and I’m planning a build for my 70 swinger. I would put a slant in most anything and I’ve always fancied a slant in a Dakota so now I must ask WHERE ARE ALL THE PICS!?! I want to see a diesel turbo slant in a Dakota now lol!
Thanks for the help |
