Junior, Thanks for the good advice, This is the MSD 6-AL-2 box I have:

I don't know that it's programmable, but it does have 2-step capabillity built in, so, I should be okay. There's a turnable knob behind a rubber access plug to set the rpm.

I'll let you know if it works..

Trigger the relay to turn the retard on with the brake light switch. Put the brakes on and the timing retards, brakes off normal timing. Easy as pie.

Thanks, Slantzilla! That sounds like a capital idea! I don't know how many amps this MSD two-step actuator would use, and whether the brakelight circuit would need a higher-capacity fuse for that. Do you know?

The amp draw for the 2 step is very low, and you are only activating the coil on the relay so that is pretty small too. I ran a similar deal on my '66 and never took out a fuse.

My 2 step is a button on the steering wheel. It's been a while since my last track outing (just bought my first house!). My car is a 5 speed so the last time I just 2 stepped at 3000rpm which built between 5-10psi depending how long I sat there and that was netting me a 1.81 sixty with some moderate tire spin dumping the clutch. Precision 62/62 turbo 63 ar housings the spool was always pretty solid but the 2 step should help ya build some boost.
