Pat, don't worry about how fast your car is. I raced last year with a 1bbl stocker and still had a blast. The previous years I've raced, it was with a super six setup in a 4door Dart. This year the engine internally is all stock with a large 2bbl and headers. We should be pretty close speed wise.

Post subject:  Update

As Pat noted the weather looks great and hopefully we will have a great turnout.

I talked to the Track owner this afternoon about the Sunday schedule. He said that the time trials start at noon, and the racing will begin after everyone has 2 time trials whenever that is. I think the flyer said 11:30 so I would be sure to be there a little before this so you don't miss anything.

Helmets are not required for anything over 14.0 seconds If you run 13.99 then you need one.

Convertibles must run with the top up, and if your convertible runs 14.99 or faster you need a helmet.

When you arrive tell them if you are a racer and they will direct you to one lane to enter the pits and if you are just a spectator they will direct you to another lane and parking.

Look for some of the Guys when you come in. We are going to try and have some reserved pit area so we can all park close together. Lou Madson, Ron Hamby and Greg Ondayko will be staying overnight at the track so look for them if you are real early. I will likely not get there until 10:15-10:30

See you there

Post subject:  Layout

EV2,
I just saw your post. The layout is pretty simple. When you turn on to the property off of Route #40 you will first come to a pay booth. The drag strip is straight in front of you. The pits are across the dragstrip and if you are racing tell them and they will direct you there. On the right as you enter is general parking just about anywhere you want. If you continue on in the lane towards the bleachers and look to the right will be where the show cars are. Swap meet is really kind of small and was on the spectator side as you went in to park behind the bleachers.

That is how the place was laid off the last time I was down. It may have changed but it is all easy to find.

See you there, Rick

Also as you come towards the track on Route #40, when you pass the Sheetz convenience store, the track is just over the next hill.

Post subject:  Landmarks

This event is really very easy to find. Just look at Google Maps and type in "Hagerstown, Md." Look on the East side of Hagerstown and find Route#40. This is the main East / West road running through Hagerstown. The track is located approx. 5 miles East of Hagerstown. As you drive East on 40 you will see the "sheetz" convenience store on the Right. It is Red and big and you can't miss it. It is at the intersection of Rte. 66 and Rte. 40. This would be a good place with easy access for anyone needing gas. Drive past the Sheetz store and I believe it is just up over the next hill and down the other side and the track will be on the right. You can easily see cars parking in the fields as you approach the entrance.

If you get to the "Family recreation center" on your left you just drove past the entrance. The recreation center is a go cart track, mini golf center on the opposite side of the road from the track.

The gates open at 8:00 on Sunday, but I think tech opens at 9:00 AM.

I'll check the site in the morning, but after about 10:00 I'll be heading out to the track for test and tune.

Rick

Charles, sure hope your friends can come along. Look forward to meeting you.

Post subject:  Clarification !

Hope this doesn't confuse anyone. But as I looked at the map again. There is actually 2 Rte 40's leaving Hagerstown. Please note that you want the one labeled "Dual Highway" Rte.40 & Rte.144.

The other Rte. 40 is "Old Rte. 40" that runs to Funkstown and Boonsboro and is labeled "Old National Pike" on google maps.

Why they do this I don't know, but I know it happens everywhere.

Post subject:  Test & Tune update

Just got home from the test and tune a few minutes ago. Had a great time and met about 6 or 8 new friends. I think we had 6 cars running. Ron Hamby was running some 12.1's. Lou Madsen, Greg Ondayko, and my son Ryan Covalt all were running times in the 14.7 -15.0 range, which was cool. Brian Mimken, and Phil S. were the other 2 with Brian running 18 second times and I'm not sure what Phil ran. Met some new people and some people that I felt that I knew , but had never met in person.

Well it is not to late to come and join us! Come to race or just to say hi. We'd love to meet you.

Morningnight hawk. Sneak out of the show field for a bit and come race with us.

That would be great!

See you all there tomorrow! :D

PS. I think Ryan ran 9 time trials. Yes 9  I was about to take the keys from him. I think he enjoys racing !! :D

Post subject:  MAson Dixon RAce Results

Well, Ask me if I had a great time or what !! :D We had a great time racing and getting to know some new friends. We ended up with only 9 cars which was a little lower that we were expecting, but everyone made it to the 1st round.

This will be just a quick update, Lou will probably add more to this and The next issue of the SSRN will have a full report of the racing.

List of attendees: Charles Brooks Jr. (R)
Ryan Covalt (R)
Lou Madsen
Greg Ondayko
Maynard Gress (R)
Brian Mimken
Phil Stoneback
Thomas Heflin (R)
Ron Hamby

First Round winners included all 3 manual transmission cars: Lou, Greg, and Ryan . Thomas won also, with Ron getting the bye

2nd round winners: Lou beat Greg, Ron beat Ryan , and Thomas got the bye

3rd Round winners: Ron beat Thomas when Thomas red lighted & Lou had the bye

Finals Pitted 3 time Champion Ron Hamby against the 5 Speed Dart of Lou Madsen. Lou came up with the big Win light!!

Great Job Lou !! Congrats on your first Finals win in Slant 6 racing!!

Sorry I don't have the dial-ins but I think Lou's winning time was a 14.59 and Ron was running around 12.2

Thanks to all who helped me and donated money to the purse. The track people treated us well and I think the racers all thought the track was nice.

A little surprise came when they called the Slant 6 2nd & 3rd place winners up to get their trophies! That's cool. I had The winner's trophy already done up so they gave us 2nd & 3rd too.

We handed out a good many Slant 6 racing Newsletters that Seymour sent me and had a lot of people stopping by and looking at the cars and commenting how well they were running.

I'm Looking forward to next year already and meeting some more new people.

Thanks to all,

Rick Covalt
