Down to counting the hours now. We'll be heading to Scottsdale to join the cruise at about 11:00 this morning. We'll be at the track probably mid-morning tomorrow.

I just got home about an hour ago, tired, sore, sunburned, and broke but I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

I had a great time at MATS, though I had to bail early to go take care of some family business. Our caravan arrived Friday morning after driving most of the night and taking a quick pit stop to grab a few hours of sleep near Barstow. Traveling with the little one meant that 4 hours of sleep was really 2 naps of about 1.5 hours, one with him in the back seat, the other with him sleeping on my lap. The 6:30 rap on the glass from Alan came *way* too soon!

The most exciting moment on the trip out was the inevitable "Daddy I have to go pee!" occurring 1 mile before road Zyzzx road. This entailed a hasty pass to get in front of Doug and zip off to the side of the road without causing Doug any hassles in his wagon. Thankfully, I didn't forget to bring the porta-potty for the kid, so it was done in 60 seconds flat and we were on the way.

I had a great time hanging in the pits with Wayne, Doug and some other folks that I met for the first time. Mattheus however really wanted to go see the races, so we loaded up his wagon and watched everyone take their trial runs. I have posted some of the slant six cars that I took pictures of on my website.

A guy named Glenn with a yellow Valinat was the winner when Alan Dutra bulbed against him in the final.

Arik Erickson and Seymour were the semi's.

Susan and I had a great time. It was fun hanging out with the west coasters that we only see once a year. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well, Allen and I had a great time in Vegas but had the "tow from hell" on the way home.
The tow car (and 'dragon wagon') 66 Dart wagon blew a head gasket pulling up a big hill near Baker, CA. Any other car would have died on the spot.... us, we retorqued the head, dumped-in some stop leak, added water evey 50 miles and drove it another 400 miles home!
The bad news, 12 hours to get home
I will post some photos when I get a moment.

Aric and I headed out on our way back from Vegas via 15 and only took 4 1/2 hours to travel 120 miles to Barstow. The LA traffic was terrible and stop/go, people dodging in and out. Will go another route next year. This was the best..best ever MPAS. Big turnout for all classes..big car show with lots of Slant6 cars...huge swap meet. Windy on Thursday and perfect on Fri=Sat-Sun. We had 15 slant6 cars until Sunday and then finished up with 13 for the races. Doug had fastest time with Aric a close 2nd. Seymour drove all the way out and it paid off as he went into the semi-round and even won some $$$. Aric also made it to the semi's. Glen Terry from Chico won the whole thing when Allen "The Red Light Kid" got just a little too anxious. Menko with son showed up and were both enjoying all the slant6 cars car what was going on. Glen was very deserving as he had blown the transmission on his motor home around Portola, Calif. He left the motor home on a side road and unloaded his race car and drove it all the way from Portola to Vegas. The $$ will surely come in handy for Glen towards the repair bill on his RV. Mike was there with his " new ride" and he was as always cutting some great lights. Romeo had his Valiant running great.... Doug, Aric and Romeo were all running in the 13's which is hard to go with a adjusted elevation that neared 4000' at times. Mike Williams was also there along with Sergio Gonzales from Chico. Mike wasn't happy with the offered prize $$ so he was challenging Sergio to several match races with both putting up $$ to the winner. Dave Erickson was there with his neat 34' Plymouth coupe but was having fuel pump/regulator problems which came and went without reason. Dennis and Mike were both helping "reroute" lines , trying to eliminate the problem . David still ran in the mid-14's with all the problems. This car will run in the 13's once the "gremlins" are eliminated. Oscar was there with his Dodge slant 6 but and made several rounds in elimination. Rick Valent brought two cars with wife Jean doing the driving on the second Lancer. My only "complaint" was the long wait times between rounds and waiting until almost 3:00 on Sunday to even get our first elinmation run. On the way home, we still had the radio tuned into the track station. They had the slant6 winner, Glen Terry on the radio. They asked Glen if he wanted to say anything...Glen said that he dedicated his win to his racing team..."THE KILLER BEES"
Photos will be downloaded later so stay tuned..

Ok, pictures are posted that I have. I can open that gallery up to anyone else that wants to put pics there, so just let me know.

Glen's car is the first one shown, including his "backup" driver.

It was great getting a chance to come and see folks, even if for only a few hours. That wasn't the plan, but life happens. Doug sorry to hear about the headgasket.

The beige Lancer is owned by a nice lady from Tucson. She was part of the cruise up from Scottsdale. She told me that her husband twisted her arm to make the trip and run her car because there was always a shortage of slant cars. His car is a black and white 62 Valiant. They were parked just a couple of stalls down from the slantsix.org crew. Her car is a nicely reconditioned daily driver. Thier Arizona plates read "HER62" and "HIS62."

That's Rick and Jean Valent. They used to have a later Dart and Valiant ('73-'76?) and they had similar plates on those. They were some of the very first "Slant 6 People" I met when I bought my '72 Dart Swinger in 1991 and joined the Slant 6 Club of America local chapter in Tucson.
