Woodburn isn't until June. I should be able to make that pretty easy. Once the engine is together I need to bring the RX in the garage and start fitting the drivetrain.

The rods have been fitted with ARP bolts and resized. The pistons are hanging on the rods, the crank is shiny clean and polished and I'm $149.60 poorer. I have a number of things to do tomorrow, but I should be able to get the rotating assembly in the block.

Sorry I haven't been following this thread too much, but are you going to race with the rx-7 than in woodburn? I don't think the blower will be on the 170 by than....

Steph just left here with her replacement trunk lid and front doors installed on the '65. :D

I haven't got around to the Valiant this weekend. Took it for a bit of a turn "Around the block." (a 160 acre square out here in Farmland.) It hasn't been warmed up for a while, so it was nice to do a little squirreling around out there.

The pie tin I modified to fit from an old big block ford 4bbl seems to be working pretty well.
Lot's of hood clearance for the Carter. The air horn points to the heater blower motor on the Firewall. It still needs a little more work.

Got the 63 into the garage and pulled the tranny pan and unbolted the converter. All the internals on the tranny ar new and look good even the filter was new! The converter freewheeled on the tranny no matter what gear it was in so tomorrow i will pull the engine and see if the adaptor ring is there, if not i found my problem..The motor is .030 over and may have a stock cam so i will put it back together and save up for a nitrous kit. It came with a AFB 625 cfm manual secondary carb, I'm going to try it and see if it works. It also seems to have a 8 or 9" inch converter, i will have it out tomorrow, anyone know of GER converters?

Wicked/six,

Sorry, but GER made crap converters.

The RX should be out at Woodburn unless I get lazy and throw the new motor and automatic in the Valiant. Whatever comes with me to Woodburn should be much quicker than the Valiant's current best of 16.86.

That be the gospel right there brother.

Converter is a bad place to go cheap. You definitely get what you pay for.

Glad to learn you're making progress on your car. Now I'm going out to the garage to make some progress on mine.

Well, no major progress here, the plan is to be quicker than the 17.2 I was running last year with all the tuning and fixing the rear end ect. I don't think it will shave off more than a half a second though. I gotta replace a clutch on the Saturn and start back up the '49 GMC. Good luck everyone I'll try to make it to a race this year, but money may say otherwise.

Good to know i guess i will put in the 3K midwest! Anyone have a straight axle they are willing to part with?
Edit: found no adaptor ring, this may be an easy fix!

The crank, rod and pistons are all in the block. The ring end gaps are on the wide side which is not at all surprising for a production line reman engine. I've found that these kinds of shops generally bore the cylinders on the loose side, but the top ring end gaps on these rings are over 20 thousandths. Factory specs for ring end gap is .010-.020".

The main bearing clearance is right at .0015" which is cool for the use this engine will see.

The wide clearances of this engine led me to an obvious nickname. This 230" slant shall be known as Lucy. :)

Count splines...
If the 904 is an early push button unit with an 18 spline input shaft, GER may have put the larger 27 spline receiver inside the converter.
That combo will bolt together, pump fluid but would not drive the input shaft and therefore, "freewheel".
